Republicans are horrible at using power and playing smash mouth politics.

Fact - the beginning premise of any new map is to preserve the re- election of Mike Johnson and Steve Scalise, the Speaker of the House and the House Majority Leader.
This ain’t a civics book about fairness and commonality and all that crap.
This is real life.
After those two needs have been addressed you then move to make sure that there’s a district that Letlow can win in if she loses the Senate race.
Why?
Because Letlow sits on the Appropriations Committee, which is a huge deal for the state.
After those three criteria are met, the rest is just internal politics between legislators, etc.

Jay Morris is really trying to sell this map
He claims it’s compact & includes communities of interest. BR and New Orleans couldn’t be more different.

bullshite! It’s just an excuse. Gonzalas and Prairieville aren’t slowing down with growth while NOLA is losing population. Not to mention all the republicans that live in NOLA and never vote because it never mattered.
This is a huge point of emphasis that’s being missed by most.
I haven’t voted for a house rep candidate in Nola ever because what’s the point? I just skipped over it when voting. There are tens of thousands like me

Keep living in civics fantasy land.

Republican politicians need to grown some balls. In the last election 2/3 of the voters voted Republican and the 2 democrat seats are in the center of the state . A blue wave is not going to overcome a 20% or bigger voting gap especially in multiple districts .

How is this not gerrymandering?
That is kind of the point, unfortunately. Dem havens have been horrendously gerrymandered for years. This is the long overdue weaponized response. The voters could pass a Constitutional Amendment demanding compact districts. But that won't happen. The GOP could unilaterally disarm. But that be stupid.

Splitting New Orleans and wrapping the green district around the yellow district to make the votes work for someone sure look like gerrymandering to any honest person.
You do realize this has never been about election integrity, right?

This is what I meant in my post yesterday. Everybody wants to gerrymander to 6–0, but there is a very real risk of losing three seats if you do it that way. All it takes is a little bit of a blue wave and that 6 to 0 turns into 3 to 3. That's why they don't want to gerrymander to 6–0.

They know.
It just doesn't fit the narrative they want everyone to believe.

And I also note that they chopped a tiny part of St. Landry Parish out, presumably so that Higgins doesn't have to run in a new district.
Higgins already didn't live in his district and we all knew that. Libertarians are usually candidates in districts they have never lived in.

I would assume District 2 was created to contain as many Democrats as possible in the same district to guarantee other Republican strongholds. Which is precisely what they should do, what is your complaint?
Except for corrupt Ascension per my wife's uncle when he was general legal counsel on the board of Westlake Group, the River Parishes are plantation rats and most of the plantations were sold to chemical companies in the late 1960s. At least 30,000 acres is leased for sugar cane and grazing by Dow Chemical alone. The plantation rats wanted a proposed chemical plant to hire them without 3rd grade reading comprehension and drug testing and after this was refused, Rise St. James was formed.

We could go 6-0 and still have GOP stronghold. They just don’t want to work that hard or have deal with the black community.
I shared an office at Dow Chemical with a dude who was a Democrat operative in White Castle. He openly bragged about having to carry a brief case of certified checks payable to Cash in the amount of $30 each to hand out at election time, along with a free lunch. Perfectly legal under state and Federal law as expense money to go vote. He said that the GOP was stupid not to do this
FWIW, James Carville's younger brother Bill (RIP) bragged about bringing a satchel with $250k, in $100 bills, to have a conservative Democrat defeated as sheriff in Calcasieu Parish. That money was spread around North Lake Charles.

I still think the GOP is being lazy as usual.

That is absolutely horrible. Please tell me they are not going with it.

Looks like it.
According to the other thread the senate passed it.

New Orleans has a population of about 350,000 people ONLY 20,000 adults not registered voters and a lot of former convicted felons who cannot vote.
Where are you coming up with those who don't register because there is much who haven't. A lot of the registered GOP in New Orleans will support who they can make the most money off of behind the scenes. These are the Uptown Republicans.
You have told me you don't know much about New Orleans by making that claim.
