Our worthless representatives seem to have buyers remorse over redistricting.

They are scared to death to absorb parts of Baton Rouge and NOLA and risk their autonomy or having to fight to get reelected.

Let’s be honest here. The GOP doesn’t want to have to work or deal with anyone else they haven’t sent kickbacks to.

I don’t know why the black caucus is screaming. No one else wants their districts anyway.

I assume the same is happening in South Carolina and Mississippi.

Look at this map below. How is this not gerrymandering?

Republicans are horrible at using power and playing smash mouth politics.

Splitting New Orleans and wrapping the green district around the yellow district to make the votes work for someone sure look like gerrymandering to any honest person.

And I also note that they chopped a tiny part of St. Landry Parish out, presumably so that Higgins doesn't have to run in a new district.

This is what I meant in my post yesterday. Everybody wants to gerrymander to 6–0, but there is a very real risk of losing three seats if you do it that way. All it takes is a little bit of a blue wave and that 6 to 0 turns into 3 to 3. That's why they don't want to gerrymander to 6–0.

Funniest thing from the debates I committee was when Blake Miguez asked Sen. Price if his map “passed the eyeball test.” But didn’t ask that same question when debating this map.

These people think we’re stupid.

I am not sure what you are struggling with? The Supreme Court didn’t outlaw gerrymandering. It outlawed gerrymandering simply on the basis of race. The US is filled with goofy shaped districts. If the state of Louisiana or any state creates a district that is funky shaped doesn’t mean it is unconstitutional, it would be unconstitutional to create a district simply for black, Hispanic, white, or Asian voters

Absolutely!

From what you are seeing, is my assessment in my OP correct?

They (the Repubs) better make this happen.

Is that not what District 2 is doing?

Could we use a district map the state already created and maintains?

bullshite! It’s just an excuse. Gonzalas and Prairieville aren’t slowing down with growth while NOLA is losing population. Not to mention all the republicans that live in NOLA and never vote because it never mattered.

No. They don’t want to have to work or politic new constituents.

Tboy hit the nail on the head with this:

I would assume District 2 was created to contain as many Democrats as possible in the same district to guarantee other Republican strongholds. Which is precisely what they should do, what is your complaint?

Population doesn’t work for that. We only have enough people for 6 representatives.

It’s gerrymandered.

We could go 6-0 and still have GOP stronghold. They just don’t want to work that hard or have deal with the black community.

That’s why I said the Black Caucus really shouldn’t be bitching. No one wants them anyway.

Gerrymandering, while distasteful, is legal. If they're truly just trying to frick the other party(ies). Doing it on race is illegal.

Problem is that when one race votes 95% in lock-step with a particular party, it's a fine line.

If Fields wins, and the Republican opponent is White, they should sue via Racial Discrimination in that the Supreme Court has already outlawed said District. Assuming it is not changed or racially gerrymandered.

The point was the state/politicians can draw nice clean districts if they wanted.

I admittedly have zero knowledge of all of this stuff. It is all games and manipulation and I have better things to do.
