I get daily emails from our local PD via a neighborhood watch program. Normally I'm all for their efforts to reduce crime, but this seems wrong to me. I'll copy and past the email. I'll also include the photo they attached. I don't know if that's a pic of the decoy or of a perp. I'd like your opinions please.

quote:

Over the weekend, we teamed up with detectives from the California Alcohol Beverage Control for a "decoy" operation at local alcohol sales retail locations. Our juvenile "decoys" asked adults walking into the these stores if they were willing to purchase beer for them due to being under the legal age to buy it themselves.

You would think 100% of adults would say "No"... but four adults in separate incidents took money from the teens and purchased alcohol for them. They were arrested and released with a promise to appear in court citation.

This grant-funded operation is designed to reduce underage consumption of, and access to, alcohol by deterring adults from furnishing alcohol to teens outside of licensed premises.

They used to do that in New Orleans every once in a while when I lived there. Don't really care.

An 18 year old can get the death penalty, vote for President and be drafted to die in a war thousands of miles from home. How they cannot legally purchase alcohol is beyond me. These sting operations are a complete waste of resources imo.

I “hey mister’d” more than a few times in high school. Usually someone looking for money. They’d buy me the case and one for themselves.

I don’t agree with sting operations at all. If you’re not a good enough cop to catch criminals without setting a decoy and waiting, you probably shouldn’t be a cop.

It's grant-funded textbook entrapment.

How do you suggest they catch the person buying your son or daughter alcohol you do not want them to have or how do you address those giving alcohol to underage drivers..... I won't hold my breathe till you answer

Well, you can’t give any alcohol to any driver, underage or not, so there’s that.

I don't want the police to do any of that. They have more important things to be doing.

You can breathe now.
