Air Guard is already upgrading to the F35 or F15EX.

A surprising number of direct action sorties are flown by the Guard, including in Epic Fury. They do far more than fly racetracks over Ohio to maintain flight hours. They're not just tankers and mobility.

2 and 1/2 a year? Those numbers are not correct. Plus the F15 EX can do things other jets can not and can carry weapons other jets cant carry.

Pretty sure Louisiana is getting the F15EX if they haven’t already upgraded

Pretty sure they’re still building new support facilities for the EX upgrade the last time I checked

8 planes over 3 years is a little over two and a half a year, right? No?

Bitched out. That’s what happens when you have a guy with a background like that in that job.

We already have 6 and I am pretty sure they are starting to deliver them out to other squadrons. It took a little while after we heard about them to get 1 and 2 but the next 4 came fast.

I believe the F-47 replacing the raptor will probably be blocked out to cover a ton of what these other aircraft are doing.

Very true. Very high. MiC platforming and cost are mystical. That happens when a department of government refuses a audit for well...forever.

We can’t build more F-22s, the production line has long been shut down (thanks Obama, you fricking terrorist). The F-16 Viper would be a great complement to our growing 5th gen fleet. I love the F-15EX and we still need many more of those as well but the F-16 gives you that multirole ability where the F-15EX is a huge gun truck, the F-16 is a smaller target and very agile while still being able to carry a huge load-out and the conformal fuel tanks helps the F-16 not need to carry 2-3 belly/wing tanks of fuel where they can carry more munitions. There is still plenty of room to add a 4.5+ gen platform that is battle tested and it’s capability is known worldwide with so many nations having legacy F-16s still as their front line fighters.

Nice. Husband was at that final airshow fly off too, so I showed it to him. He flew out of Oceana from ‘86-‘98 - asked if you knew “Puck” Howe?

Name doesn’t ring a bell. But my time at Oceana was hectic. Got there in 90 and spent a lot of time on workups. With Iraq amping up training cycle was also sped up. When got back off deployment Dec 91, moved with squadron to Miramar in Feb 92. So I never had much time to get around unless he was in VF-31.

Stupid civilian question. Why are we still using jets developed in the 70s? I realize these modern jets are completely different aircraft but for the body design, but why keep the old dedign? Is this some sort of legislative maneuver so that they’re not considered “new” weapons systems? I understand this was the case with the Strike Eagle and the Super Hornet.
