Opinion: Would re-instating the military draft stop these mass shooting?

If young males had to serve in the military for 2 years straight out of high school, maybe they would learn some basic interactions of how to operate in society and teach them structure in life.
Also, it would serve to identify people with extreme personalities or mental illness.

No. Military won’t invest the time and resources for just two years of service from every male 18-20.

While I agree something needs to be done its a damn shame that we might need the government to teach this since many parents aren't.

It might turn sissy boys into real men. You'd lose some, but that might be a good thing

Yeah we do such a great job with veterans mental health.

So make every male go into the military because of the actions/behaviors of a few?
No. We need to focus on raising boys to be men and getting people to the needed mental health resources. It seems like no one wants to talk about poor parenting being a part of this issue.

As much as I might like compulsory military service for for the maturity to be gained. The burden it would place on the military to deal with slugs who do not want to be there and will not conform would destroy the system. What do you do with all the dead weight, if it's compulsory then there is no effect of a contract to use as leverage so discipline would completely break down and your fighting force is now a daycare organization.

Many of these age 18-20 are not military material. Some don't even know if they are male or female.

No.
Eliminating the 4 year college model would be a big start. Couple that with increased investment in trade schools and making high schools teach home-ec, shop, and basic finance.
Kid's don't have any direction in life until their mid 20s in today's world.
College for the super vast majorities of degrees should be maybe 2 years of class learning and then a couple years of real world interning.
