Only YOU can change the Political Talk, a 2 point guide for a better board!

I think that we can all agree that the Political Talk as of late has been the place where political debate goes to die. I very much enjoy this board, and wish it was a place that I could come to debate politics and a place where I could find pertinent news regarding topics that I may not have a great familiarity with otherwise. However there are some very particular offenses which are killing the Political Talk.
1. Starting a thread with no basis for, intention to debate, or only to provoke other posters. We are all guilty, there is no partisan monopoly on starting threads for random thoughts with no basis for discussion.
2. Only posting in a thread to attack. Posting in a thread a "tl;dr", "Rex;dr", etc does nothing to facilitate healthy debate. I know that certain posters make posts that are hackish and stupid. But posting the aforementioned only encourages the poster even more. You know what drives posters crazy, when you IGNORE their threads. Seriously, a poster you don't like posts something that you have nothing to contribute, IGNORE it. Don't post in it and it gets swept to the second page with swiftness instead of being propped up at the top by "...;dr" posts.
If every poster would make an effort to be better based off these two very simplistic guidelines, then this board would be so much better, and I know that many of you agree. As much as this board hates certain posters, the posters that criticize them so much only seek to contribute and enable those posters to keep their antics up.
Let's all take a vow to be better posters, today!
(tl;dr and all that good stuff)

I would find myself posting a hell of lot more if these guidelines we're loosely followed. the majority of the time I don't feel like there's a point when every thread devolves into a flamefest

I'll bump this one. Good suggestion.

TLDR
But seriously though, even I am guilty of those two problems and practically every poster on this board is. It just a matter of controlling yourself and letting rational heads prevail. These two points need to be followed more often, not completely but just enough to give the impression that's what this board supports

You meant "provoke" there.

Not trying to be provocative, S...but I think you meant PROVOKE.
You're going to have to sort through the fluff; the board is still solid.

I got my thoughts mixed up about invoking a riot and provoking posters.
Thanks for pointing this error out, sir.

3. Being a spelling/grammar nazi instead of responding to the substance of a post
4. Using the spank and doublebird emoticons.

I am not reading through all of this post, but I am pretty sure you meant to say "provoke" rather than "invoke" in the OP.

I've felt the same way lately. I've never been a huge contributor here, and like you mentioned, I've thrown a gif or meme up with little else in a thread. It seems as if there's been much less moderation on this board, particularly with the religious threads (that used to be an almost immediate shutdown).
By the time I look at the thread listing, if there's more than two pages, often times the discussion isn't even on the OP anymore, and has turned into insults, etc.
I agree with this OP, and I think the number of down votes it has received provides some decent evidence to its truth.

I don't mind the memes, gifs, and such ... so long as they are timely and clever.

As of late? Are you serious Clark?
I've been posting here for 10 years and NEVER has this board been a place for political debate.
This board is, however, an EXCELLENT source for peaking into the minds of the low-info voter. It's what keeps me coming back. If you go into it with that mindset, this is a very entertaining place.
To actually believe you're going to come here and engage in political debate is pretty funny.
IMO, 5% (at most) of the people who post here have anything worthwhile to say. The rest are simply parroting the propaganda they just heard on TV.
