The waves are pretty bad but shouldn’t have sunk a ski boat like that if the operator knew what he was doing. Either his engine quit, he had a leak already which caused it to list and the waves finished it, or he didn’t know how to drive in waves. It’s tricky to drive in those type of waves you better know how to handle them

That must have been a really older model boat. All boat manufacturers are now required by the Coast Guard to install enough flotation to keep the boat afloat even under swamped conditions.

It looked like a wake boarding boat... I wonder if the ballast were filled with water aiding in the sinking?

Nice edit in the video that doesn’t show you what happened. These idiots probably forgot to put in the plugs. There’s no way that would sink a boat like that from the wakes.

I would bet a few things. The boat was probably assisted by Trump boats helping them out the water.

Looks like whoever was operating the boat may have backed into the waves to cause it to fill up with water like that and kill the engines.

There is much less regulation than you think relating to pleasure craft. Boats over 20’ are not required to have level flotation. I also think that boat was overloaded and probably had some maintenance issues.
