Old State Capitol Democrat/Socialist Exhibits

I toured the Old State Capitol for the first time in 50 years. I’m an old Republican guy and my head was spinning. Nothing but leftist, socialist, race baiting exhibits. Huey Long, Jim Crow, KKK, all intended to sow discord, hate and discontent. What about exhibiting productive, civil aspects of all citizen’s contributions of our great state’s history in a positive manner? It’s no wonder there’s so much division; to think that every grade school BR area student gets indoctrinated on their field trips. This historical society should be ashamed of this display of hatred…..

Did you see the Louisiana Purchase?

Yes, La. Purchase, that huge chunk of land that was stolen from the indigenous people’s. You know the ones that migrated from Asia so they’re really not indigenous.

Yeah but which indigenous tribe owned said huge chunk of land before ten other indigenous tribes stole said huge chunk of land?

I’m what this board calls a “leftist” and I also toured the old state capitol recently. Definitely didn’t leave with thoughts of hate or rage at what I saw. Nothing in there was untrue. I’m sorry, but that stuff is part of our history. It was sobering and informative. Didn’t make me hate anyone or feel divided. Made me feel empathy.
And if you think you’re going into a political museum in Baton Rouge and not getting a heavy dose of Huey P. Long…I mean come on lol.

There were plenty exhibits like this. Stuff on the history of the Capitol itself, every governor of Louisiana, etc.

Sooo we should pretend that stuff never happened? Take it out of schools and museums? When I was in middle school in Livingston Parish, they didn’t even call the holiday MLK Day. It was Human Relations day. I’d imagine you want handled like that?

Eternal victimhood yields eternal funding and political capital.

Well our new state capital exhibits Democrat socialism in real time. Most of it provided by the Republican Party

Tell that to the statues that have been torn down

That is exactly what has been done by Democrat Mayors and Governors all over the country

More examples of a campaign to preach shame about our shared culture and civilization.

I taught Louisiana History in an inner city school here in br for twenty years.
I had to prove to my students that the modern Louisiana that they saw everyday did not always exist.
At first they did not believe that New Orleans was originally a swampy cypress forest with no streets or any structures of any kind.
They believed the same about br , Shreveport ,or any large city in our state.
Most of the were 13 or older but have never even travelled to Port Allen.
It was difficult to talk people into colonizing Louisiana, no one wanted to come here. It was hard to clear the land, fight insects, reptiles , and diseases. There was no a/c.
Prior to WW2 Louisiana was mainly an agricultural state. Democrats had control of the state since Claiborne had been governor, all the way until Mike Foster. My students believed that all whites in the state owned slaves. I had to show them that only the wealthy landowners could afford to own slaves.
With regard to the display at the old state capitol one should realize just how long this state has been mired in barbarism, both political and economic. Our state could really make some advancements if we could attract more high tech jobs that were not related to petroleum chemicals. I would like to see some balance in these types of displays that illustrate our past but also show what the state can be like in the future, a future of positive growth.
