JUST IN: Secretary Rubio sends a WARNING to Iran
"They really shouldn't test the will of the United States—at least not under President Donald Trump.
He has proven, time and again, that he will back up what he says—and if they test him, ultimately, they will LOSE.”

JUST IN: Marco Rubio CALLS OUT the United Nations for doing NOTHING to condemn Iran putting mines in the Strait of Hormuz
The UN is even more useless than NATO.
"These guys are bombing COMMERCIAL vessels! They're not bombing NAVAL vessels. It's just outrageous!"
"We're the only ones doing anything about it!"
"We're going to the UN. Everybody loves the UN, right? We're trying to go to the UN and we're saying, 'OK, countries of the world condemn this.'"
"Say that 'it is WRONG for you to put minds there. It is WRONG for you to shoot at commercial vessels.'"

Time to DEFUND the UN.
"All we're asking them to do is to CONDEMN this, to call on Iran to stop BLOWING UP ships, to remove these mines and to allow humanitarian relief to come through because there's humanitarian aid that's trapped."
"It's a very modest request! And if you're telling me that the international community and hundreds of countries cannot rally behind that, then I don't know what the utility of the UN system is. If it can't even solve something as straightforward as that."

"There's no oil blockade on Cuba per se. Here's what's happening with Cuba. Cuba used to get free oil from Venezuela. They used to give them a bunch of free oil. They would take like 60% of that oil and resell it for cash."
"It wouldn't even go to benefit the people. So the only blockade that's happened is the Venezuelans have decided we're not giving you free oil anymore."
"The problem with Cuba is worse. Their economic model doesn't work!"
"It doesn't work. And the people who are in charge can't fix it. And the reason that I can't fix it is not just because they're communists."

I'm not disagreeing with what you say, but to look at all scenairos. Iran sends what is essentially a dirty bomb to UAE. It contaminates a hundred square miles and kills 2 dozen nomads. They say "it is a warning."
I can't see the USA leveling Tehran and most of the cities in Iran. Maybe, I'm wrong. Or is the use of a dirty bomb open the door for "no such thing as proportional response in nuclear weapon use"?
I don't know how the US would respond to that, but Israel might use a nuke. How many mulligans would you give the regime? I suspect the residents of Tehran would get the hell out of Dodge.

That is a pretty dumb take. They use anything nuclear, you make dure they never get a 2nd chance.
Millions of Iranian would die, but you do not set a precedent a dirty bomb would not equal a complete annihilation.
MAD only works if you enforce it.

Gotta be honest. Having to stop escorts and defense of navigation in order to get a deal signed, one that would necessarily include freedom of navigation through the Strait, seems like a non sequitur. What does it have to do with anything?

We look pretty silly now in light of abandoning this effort so quickly.

Reports from southern Iran’s Hormozgan province say explosion-like sounds were heard overnight in Qeshm, Bandar Abbas, and Sirik around 1:30 AM, with additional noises near Larak Island around 4:00 AM.
Officials claim the sounds were from air defense countermeasures targeting drones, adding no damage or impacts were recorded.

A quick search indicates that it hasn't been abandoned...it's been paused temporarily.
AI Overview
As of May 5, 2026, President Trump has paused, rather than permanently abandoned, Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz to review a new agreement. The mission, initiated on May 4, 2026, was designed to counter Iran's blockade and restore free shipping passage.
Key details:
Status: Temporarily paused to allow for peace talks and review of new agreements.
Goal: The project aimed to remove an "illegal stranglehold" and extortionate tolling system on commercial vessels, according to U.S. officials.
Context: The pause follows days of high tension where U.S. forces were tasked to provide 24/7 overwatch with naval destroyers and air support.
Current Situation: While paused, the underlying U.S. military presence and focus on ensuring, as officials describe it, the safe navigation of commercial vessels remains in place as diplomatic efforts continue.
