So it looks like Iran is blocking/ choking down the flow of the strait and maybe charging for passage on who they choose to let pass.

They may believe it is the best time they will get to make a push for Taiwan (diplomatically speaking). They likely view us as having our hands full and being overextended, and possibly that our munitions supply is dwindling (for lack of a better word).
