I don't see how Israel won't respond to this attack on the UAE, regardless of whether the US does. Israel's new alliance with the UAE is very important to them.

About an hour ago, two IDF F-15's were seen with a tanker flying over Jerusalem. No word if that was just a regular patrol or them heading towards Iran. Guess we will find out soon. I figure they would send their F-35's to Iran to strike them instead of a couple of F-15's.

Hot damn, the IRGC really is stepping in it. I don't know when the response will be, but I think at this point it will be heavy handed.

Honestly, I think we wanted them to do this so we have our excuse to glass the IRGC. I’d imagine it’s only a matter of time before us and Israel start wrecking again.

*Update*

Earlier flight of IDF F-15's over Jerusalem was a ceremonial flight to honor their outgoing Air Force Chief.

Just wait till they hit Saudi, UAE, and other countries pipelines that bypass the strait. Oil gonna jump $10 easy.

Until all of the ship owners/insurers/operators feel like they can freely transit the strait with the same relative level of safety they had prior to February 28, we are going to stay in this uncertain state

Yes, you could argue that Iran could have closed the straight anytime they wanted, and attacked ships at will. But obviously the shipping world at large was comfortable with the risk level. Otherwise 100+ ships a day wouldn't have gone through without incident.

As you point out, the risk to Gulf shipping has been present and building for a long time as Iran made both threats and preparations to block the gulf, even as they strengthened their ability to back up those threats and other threats throughout the region and around the world. Yes, the shipping world was apparently comfortable with that, but people are comfortable with lots of risky behavior, right up until the consequences become manifest.

Iran is the source of the risk and the reason for the shipping halt, not the US. Their plan was and is to hold shipping hostage if anyone tried to interrupt their militant activities or stop them from acquiring nuclear weapons. Their history and behavior make those ambitions unacceptable.
