Keep in mind - gasoline retailers raise prices immediately because they are trying to price for future replacement costs.
Oversimplification - but pump prices oftentimes reflect not what is in the storage tank this morning - but what the likely cost to replace it two weeks from now will be.
That is why there is not an immediate correlation in prices on the back side.

??How high are gas prices going? Answer: Nobody really knows and anyone who claims to know is either a liar or a fool.

Again, the current action is unprecedented and the motivation for it is highly suspect.
??What is the long-term solution to that issue? Answer: The only real solution is for the U.S. government to force an end to the longstanding monopoly on shipping insurance which Lloyd's and other London-based insurers have unjustly enjoyed for decades.
??Will prices return to normal once the Strait of Hormuz is reopened to tanker traffic? Answer: Not immediately. It will take time to reopen port activities, get production back online, and get oil flowing through pipelines again. It will also take time to work down the backlog of tankers which are now sitting idle across the Persian Gulf and even backing up into the Indian Ocean.
Bottom line: Drivers should be prepared to bear higher gas prices at the pump for a period of not days, not weeks, but months. How many months will depend on how long it takes to get tanker traffic moving through the Strait of Hormuz again.
