The way the system is set up is that you are either:
1/ A Platform where you have no requirement or authority to censor (and get great tax breaks and protections)
OR
2/ A Publisher where you have the requirement to police posts and assume tremendous liability for the posts of your *conributors*

I'm no fan of government regulation, but as some of you know, I've been through 6 Twitter accounts with the 7th having been held hostage by being locked out of the account when I created it and as a test only followed @realdonaldtrump and @ POTUS.
I've submitted 3 separate help desk tickets because that's the only way to unlock an account when you can't (won't) put in a phone number.
Twitter clearly has multiple standards for content posters.

I disagree. 99% of what I look at is informational, articles on science, politics, etc.
Reading any celeb/athlete's twitter is cringe.
Ultimately if there's a site that allows freedom of speech and ensures that users maintain responsibility of their own life then its bound to become attractive. Twitter is going to have to turn itself into a pretzel as it bends over for every little special interest group that feels the wind blow the wrong way.
Also, if they aggressively remove Chinese bots, they could really clean it up.

Personally, I prefer GAB, but it was pulled from the app stores when they (AAPL & GOOG) blackballed them. Their web interface is as good as an app, but that's never going to fly in 2020.
