Massive hit piece on right leaning Youtubers, painting them as some type of insidious Nazi cult working in the shadows to recruit new members. It's also interesting how this piece dropped right in the middle of the Vox Adpocolypse, with Crowder doing everything he can to keep his channel from getting banned.

quote:

“I fell down the alt-right rabbit hole,” he said in the video. Mr. Cain, 26, recently swore off the alt-right nearly five years after discovering it, and has become a vocal critic of the movement.

He is scarred by his experience of being radicalized by what he calls a “decentralized cult” of far-right YouTube personalities, who convinced him that Western civilization was under threat from Muslim immigrants and cultural Marxists, that innate I.Q. differences explained racial disparities, and that feminism was a dangerous ideology.

“I just kept falling deeper and deeper into this, and it appealed to me because it made me feel a sense of belonging,” he said. “I was brainwashed.”

quote:

Over years of reporting on internet culture, I’ve heard countless versions of Mr. Cain’s story: an aimless young man — usually white, frequently interested in video games — visits YouTube looking for direction or distraction and is seduced by a community of far-right creators.

quote:

Some young men discover far-right videos by accident, while others seek them out. Some travel all the way to neo-Nazism, while others stop at milder forms of bigotry.

quote:

Over time, he watched dozens of clips by Steven Crowder, a conservative comedian, and Paul Joseph Watson, a prominent right-wing conspiracy theorist who was barred by Facebook this year. He became entranced by Lauren Southern, a far-right Canadian activist, whom he started referring to as his “fashy bae,” or fascist crush.

These people weren’t all shouty demagogues. They were entertainers, building their audience with satirical skits, debates and interviews with like-minded creators. Some of them were part of the alt-right, a loose cohort of pro-Trump activists who sandwiched white nationalism between layers of internet sarcasm. Others considered themselves “alt-lite,” or merely antiprogressive.

quote:

The officials stressed, however, that YouTube realized it had a responsibility to combat misinformation and extreme content.

“While we’ve made good progress, our work here is not done, and we will continue making more improvements this year,” a YouTube spokesman, Farshad Shadloo, said in a statement.

It's pretty disturbing how they characterize these YT personalities.

I also find it interesting how they're now using the phrase "recently banned by facebook, twitter, etc" as a nefarious descriptor.

They're trying to silence everyone on the right ahead of election year. These tech companies are obviously coordinating with the fake media.

Why is Philly D on this? This reads like another hidden tribes hit piece.

Also, this dude is a massive pussy who cannot think for himself. Him referring to Lauren Southern as”fashy bae” is cringey AF and make me think he is just a troll or useful idiot for this hit piece.

They love their derogatory terminology such as "far right" and "alt-right".

Funny because the NYT will be the first one to whine about Trump calling people names. Just because they're more subtle doesnt mean it's any different.

That reads like a classic disinformation propaganda campaign. They trot out the dangerous thinker enemy counter-revolutionary guy who has seen the error of opposing The Party and let him discredit the opposition. It’s a psychological reinforcement method and it hardens Party resolve.

Exactly

They did this shite with Alex Jones bc he’s nuts and they wanted to test their strategy. Leftists are great with the trial balloon.

Once they got away with it - the real organizing started. CNN can control what panelists it presents but it has no control over Steven Crowder.

Leftists are totalitarian

It has also been a useful recruiting tool for far-right extremist groups. Bellingcat, an investigative news site, analyzed messages from far-right chat rooms and found that YouTube was cited as the most frequent cause of members’ “red-pilling” — an internet slang term for converting to far-right beliefs.

More misinformation from the normies. Red pill and red pilling is not unique to the boogey man far right.

This piece is useless and more fake news pearl clutching.

The later was proven this week.

quote:

“While we’ve made good progress, our work here is not done, and we will continue making more improvements this year,” a YouTube spokesman, Farshad Shadloo, said in a statement.

Translation: we’re purging YouTube from everyone who doesn’t work for the Big Six. And they are coming for the Left as well, which is why the independent content creators are siding with Crowder even if they despise him. Let’s say Biden gets the nomination, do you think the establishment is happy with the Young Turks, Jimmy Dore, and Kyle Kulinski shitting all over him and risking some Lefties voting for Trump or a third party candidate in mere protest like they did with Bernie?

They realize this. They’re coming for everyone and only want people who work for the Big Six to have a voice. The only conservative outlet is Fox, which they can deal with since they also are largely on board with the establishment. But what happens when the people on both sides want to destroy the establishment? They want to turn YouTube into a glorified Hulu and destroy the 1st Amendment.

It should not be understated that they are also silencing the Left. This is the hill to die on for those who want liberty and not for 5 organizations to tell us what we can and can’t hear. This should be the metaphorical Battle of Winterfell for people who despise one another to come against the establishment that wishes to silence us all.

There is nothing in this world that can stop the power of an idea whose time has come.

Jimmy Dore, Keek, David Pakman, Kyle Kulinski, etc. will burn down the Democrat party if the dems choose Biden.

Those guys are smart enough to realize their heads are next on the chopping block if YouTube successfully deplatforms Crowder.

Shout out to Keemstar for standing up for all independent creators against the big six and voxes of the world.

Finally, frick Carlos Maza.

When is Youtube going to be considered a publisher and not a platform, since they are clearly prohibiting content as a publisher would do.

I'm the demographic they're talking about. I watch Devon Stack, Vince James, Nick Fuentes, Vertigo Politix, etc. and I've noticed that about half of my recommendations now are for Fox News clips.

I just kept watching more and more of that content, sympathizing and empathizing with her and also seeing that, wow, she really knows what she’s talking about,” Mr. Cain said. Ms. Wynn and Mr. Bonnell are part of a new group of YouTubers who are trying to build a counterweight to YouTube’s far-right flank. This group calls itself BreadTube, a reference to the left-wing anarchist Peter Kropotkin’s 1892 book, “The Conquest of Bread.” It also includes people like Oliver Thorn, a British philosopher who hosts the channel PhilosophyTube, where he posts videos about topics like transphobia, racism and Marxist economics

NYT: conservatives=extreme evil cult
Also NYT: Marxist economics are acceptable.
