We have government run grocery stores already. They are called commissaries. Other than some sales and maybe a few other items you aren't paying less than on the economy.
I live near Maxwell AFB and the only deal is Miller High Life. Saved $2-3. NOTHING else was cheaper than Winn Dixie and the quality was worse. The meat department was a complete joke. Better cuts could be bought at a place that repairs shoe soles. Gas was the same price, or higher, than the station just off base. Some would say "but you don't pay sales tax". What the fail to mention in the surcharge added to you bill at checkout. Unbelievable that our government, with it's purchasing power, bends the service member over, but that is exactly what they do.

Tennessee Earnie Ford in Sixteen Tons said "St Peter don't you call me cause I can't go, I owe my soul to the Company Store".

We used Maxwell and Gunter for a bit. Some legit sales, but not worth it overall. Even the PX is generally more expensive. You are right though the surcharge cancels out saving on sales tax. Plus those grocery sackers are a pain in the butt, not sure is those guys are still there.

The trend of holding the little mic like that is so stupid. Attach it to your lapel.

Why stop there? Let’s do gas stations, retail stores. Restaurants. All of it.
Profit motive is what drives capitalism. Dumbass.

I just looked it up and the surcharge is 5 percent for all Commissaries in the US military system. That's a 5 percent tax on all food items.

Please see Soviet Union grocery stores as a reference. When the Soviet Premier visited America. One the places he wanted to visit was American grocery stores. Because he couldn't believe that we had such a surplus of goods. This is a horrible idea by the mayor.

These politicians think the government is the answer to everything while failure of the people to realize that the problems that we have is because the government keeps feeding the needs or attempting to feed the neddy and thus making things worse

I hope they get it. Progressives deserve this so much.
Then they can blame Elon and Trump for the inevitable disaster.
