NY Times: ‘Tidal Wave’ of Mass Immigration Hands Virginia to Democrats

Even they can admit it now.
Can you?
When you import socialism....... it's what you get
Can you?
quote:
The New York Times now admits that four to five decades of mass immigration — where about 1.2 million legal immigrants are admitted to the United States every year — has shifted Virginia into a blue state:
Not long ago, this rolling green stretch of Northern Virginia was farmland. Most people who could vote had grown up here. And when they did, they usually chose Republicans. [Emphasis added]
The fields of Loudoun County are disappearing. In their place is row upon row of cookie-cutter townhouses, clipped lawns and cul-de-sacs — a suburban landscape for as far as the eye can see. Unlike three decades ago, the residents are often from other places, like India and Korea. And when they vote, it is often for Democrats. [Emphasis added]
…
“It’s a totally different world,” said Charles Poland, 85, a retired history professor whose family has lived in Loudoun County for four generations. His family farm is now dotted with subdivisions filled with four and five-bedroom homes that sell for $750,000. The family legacy is a road named Poland. “If my parents came back today, they wouldn’t recognize the place. The changes came like a tidal wave.” [Emphasis added]

Eh, that was only part of it.
The extreme expansion of the federal government, combined with the shitty policies of DC and Maryland, concentrated growth in NOVA.

This is why legal immigration has to be severely restricted. It hurts people of all races, depresses wages for the middle class and poor and hurts the job market.
It's not just illegal immigration that has to be stopped too.

So, restricting the number of people that can enter the job market by the gov’t helps the job market? Immigration controls are simply tariffs imposed on the labor market. It hinders the market, not helps it.

So, nothing.
The article doesn’t mention the Times.

In Northern Va. right now, have to come here 3 or 4 times each year. Almost everyone has a foreign accent.
I was in the bathroom at a restaurant a little while ago washing my hands at the sink, and the foreign guy next to me, lowers his head and turns to me, pointing at the top of his head saying " Look at my hair! Look at my hair!" in whatever accent..sounded Russian to me. I just turned and grabbed some paper towels and walked away. I don't have any idea what he was freaking out about. Seemed weird as hell to me.

If your point of view, is that of someone who wants an ever increasing supply of cheaper labor, then you are correct. There is, on the other hand, a different point of view.
You know why labor is cheap in China? Because there are eleventy bajillion mother frickers competing for jobs. You want The U.S. to be like China?

Do I want competition for jobs? Yes. Every consumer should. Why wouldn’t a business seek to operate as efficiently as possible? This applies to all ends of the employment spectrum: unskilled labor to PHDs.

Everything that a consumer buys, is priced according to other factors, besides the cost of labor. Cost of materials, energy for manufacturing, environmental requirements costs... The list doesn't end. A wage earner needs his skills to be in demand, so that his wages can keep up with the cost of everything else. By artificially keeping wages low, by infusing foreign workers into the mix, you take away the average persons ability to financially cope with things such as sudden spikes in fuel prices, or food.
Personally I am in the trucking business, and have 2 guys that drive for me on contract to a company, and I drive on contract to another.
There are lots of foreigners driving now, and there are more everyday. They work for less and drive the mileage rate increasingly lower on freight.
Now, this works in favor of the big companies, but it hurts us smaller guys. That's exactly what the big companies want. Because when all of the small freight companies are gone, the big companies can stick it to everybody at once. They could shut the country down if they wanted. Easily.
Also, you need to keep the majority of the workers, earning enough, that they actually pay income taxes, or everything will be fricked soon.

But Ted Kennedy said this wasn't going to happen when he helped overhaul the immigration system in 1965...
quote:
Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) 'Out of deference to the critics, I want to comment on ... what the bill will not do. First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same ... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset ... Contrary to the charges in some quarters, S.500 will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and economically deprived nations of Africa and Asia. In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think. Thirdly, the bill will not permit the entry of subversive persons, criminals, illiterates, or those with contagious disease or serious mental illness. As I noted a moment ago, no immigrant visa will be issued to a person who is likely to become a public charge ... the charges I have mentioned are highly emotional, irrational, and with little foundation in fact. They are out of line with the obligations of responsible citizenship. They breed hate of our heritage.'

I can’t bring myself to read these articles.
I just end up feeling so damn low.

jj and teke,
You are both right, I lived there 30 years ago and you could see the DC creep then.
I also mentioned on another thread, I was looking at some voter results by demo and some of the counties in Northern Va west of DC were all rural white communites, that are now double digit hispanic (I noted the article mentioned asians to be politically correct). I was shocked, heck 30 years ago you could spend days without seeing one hispanic.
