I say leave it up. A reporter on Fox this morning said the tree is where the media gather while waiting for the President to come out and make his WH speeches outside.

Of course it is. Experts recommended it needed to be cut down. In fact, they took seedlings from it months ago and have been growing the replacement while they checked to see if there was anything that could be done.
Melania has also had wood from the tree itself preserved.

Please allow a me a moment to share a pet peeve of mine. I call it 'Old People Tree Syndrome.'
It is common knowledge among arborists that elderly home owners become paranoid about trees near their house so they have perfectly healthy trees taken down.
I have 120 very large trees in my 1.3 acre yard. That's dense. I love it. The trees were here in natural forest when I built the home among them.
I have watched my neighbors (all elderly) have crews come in and take down any tree that is within falling distance of their roof.
These trees are going to outlive me by 100 years. I want the next owner of my home to enjoy what I have enjoyed all these years. If a tree falls on me in a storm and kills me I can't think of a better way to go.
