Not standing for the national anthem

I'm sure many have seen the video going around. Young guy at a baseball game remains sitting during the national anthem until an older gentleman slaps him behind his head and makes him stand.
I know what the constitution says. Guy has the right to stay seated. Probably could press charges against the older man. blah, blah. I don't disagree with any of that.
But I am still solidly in the corner of the old man. Allow too many people to exercise their "right" to disrespect this country, and we will fail to have a country.
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

I don't recite the pledge of allegiance, because I swore an oath to what matters, the Constitution, not a flag. The pledge was written by a socialist, Bellamy.

Went to the Astros game Friday night and there were several that didn’t stand. Some had nasty scowls. Yes, it was them.

I think the difference is subtle, at best, between not reciting the pledge, and not standing for the anthem. Close enough to consider them equal offenses, in my opinion.

I don't think it is. The Constitution is the ultimate law of the land. The pledge is made up bullshite like Kwanzaa. The anthem is a song, not a law or the Constitution.
While I always stand for the anthem, you have thousands of men that don't
remove their hats during the national anthem in college football stadiums around the country, including Tiger Stadium, and nobody does anything.
Protest that I don't like is exactly why the 1st amendment exists. Do I laugh because they accomplish absolutely nothing? Sure.

I don’t know WTF has gotten into people. I was raised to show respect, period. Stand for national anthem, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and respect the office of the Presidency regardless of who’s in the White House.

It is all about upbringing. Values instilled. They were common before but unfortunately the values are dimmer. In this case, the older dude was correcting, but unfortunately other folks will make a case out of it.

Perhaps it's the wrong attitude, but I'd not be too bothered if the only nick on an otherwise clean criminal record was for slapping a little punk for disrespecting the national anthem.

Greatest thing about our country is the freedom of speech, I don’t agree with not standing for the Pledge, but millions have died to give us that right

I believe you can solidly justify your position regardless of which side you take.
It's legality vs morality. You cannot legislate morality. It has to come from within. The population at large has to encourage and enforce it. If that doesn't happen, the country will be lost and our own laws will be used against us. It's happening as we speak.

I stand and I sing, but I often see people still running to the bathrooms and grabbing concessions. Those don’t stop because of the anthem. I can choose to be pissed about it, but some people won’t change.

Agreed 100%.
But what happens if everyone decides to exercise that right? It's a sign we've lost our morals and our identity. That leaves a vacuum that will get filled by Muslims, democratic socialists, and lord knows what/who else. Others will be quick to use our own laws against us.
When it's clear that that's happening, is it still the correct position to shrug it off? When Muslims take over entire towns and begin infiltrating our government at all levels, is it proper to shrug it off due to freedom of religion?

Something I was thinking recently. Have we always placed our hands over our hearts for the National Anthem. I remember as a kid always standing for it but i feel like holding the hand over the heart developed after my childhood. Am I dreaming that?

And here is the weakness. I understand what you're asking for, but what has been voted in, all over the country, is not in line with traditional Judeo Christian values. Little Italy, anyone?
Nothing will happen in response. The Italians will still vote (D) or not vote at all.

If they don't answer to their fellow Americans first, they, and the rest of us, will spend their final years either not able to worship at all, or forced to worship a god that was chosen for them.
