North Carolina shooting leaves five dead, including two sheriff deputies

The incident began Wednesday morning when deputies responded to a call to a house and were hit by gunfire.
The Watauga County Sheriff’s office said Sgt. Chris Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox were dispatched to a home at 9:44 a.m. Wednesday after the homeowner and their family did not show up for work or answer calls.
Upon arriving at the scene, both officers were hit with gunfire. Fox died on the scene, and Ward died later at a hospital, according to The Associated Press.
"The individual suspected of killing the two officers is also suspected of killing two civilians in the residence," police said in a statement.
Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman said the civilians were the suspect’s mother and stepfather.

I wonder if the coworkers had reason to believe they were in trouble. Is that SOP to send two cops (one being a K-9) if someone doesn't show up for work?

Plus the K9 officer may have had a cross trained dog (bite/NDD) or more than one dog. None of our guys had cadaver dog or anything, but maybe he also had a tracker or something.

Is the suspect white or black, I need to know so the media can tell me how to feel.

To a domestic type of call? Yes usually two or more
The K9 guys are usually free roam and he probably answered up to assist due to other guys being tied up, or he was just additional backup 3rd/4th on scene) as somebody else suggested.
