She has acquitted herself quite well so far, imho. And like everybody else she will need a bit of seasoning to grow into the job. But so far so good. And let's remember, she serves at the pleasure of the President and she is essentially his mouthpiece so substantive criticism probably belongs with him.

There's one reason why Nikki Haley is UN Ambassador: Henry McMaster, The Lt. Gov of South Carolina. He was one of the first legit politicians to support Trump and helped him win South Carolina. McMaster was your typical career statewide Southern politician who had wanted to be Governor for sometime. Appointing Haley was more a favor for McMaster than anything else.

It's just one of those situations where everybody wins.
President Trump gets a capable and credible ambassador at the UN to represent his administration that has the support of a lot of foreign policy types in both parties and will be the hawk to his relatively dovish stance.
Nikki Haley gets foreign policy experience to get qualified for a possible tenure as Secretary of State in 2019 or if Trump wins reelection and Rex Tillerson retires. Foreign policy experience as Ambassador/SecState combined with executive experience from a successful and productive two term governorship in South Carolina will be tough to beat for a Presidential run.
Henry McMaster gets his campaign favor for Trump repaid back in dividends and he finally becomes Governor of his state and its a job he wanted for a long time.
