Recon Marine with three tours to Anbar Province Iraq checking in. While I had a couple buddies take their own lives after coming home, I can tell you that I personally never slept as soundly as when we took out some shitheads.
That being said, condolences for your buddies. Your story rather-well demonstrates that sometimes the conditioning is effective (you) and sometimes it is not (your buddies).

Taking a life is a terrible thing. If I had to I believe I will stand before God one day and have to justify my act, if that can be done.
