You don't seem to realize just what sort of "thing" the first amendment is.
Bonus: The etymology of "Thing" is interesting. In Nordic societies they used to have large meetings once per year to bring together far-flung communities, hold trials, and make and refine laws. These gatherings were called Things. Somehow the word evolved to its current usage.
