Every restaurant sells bread. The ones that don’t can put it on the menu.

Also what a stupid and obviously politically motivated exception.

Yes. But the problem for Cali is that businesses will invest in a loss leader just to avoid the wage increases.

Having a carve out for one politically connected donor is going to end up killing this whole thing from the workers’ POV.

Places like Chipotle won't be able to compete or they will just start baking some crap bread they don't need.

Fresh tortilla made on-site. They'll pay Hector minimum wage to make the tortillas so that they don't have to pay everyone else the $20.

That WOULD be “sustainable” and “locally sourced”…

I saw a clip of Newsom being interviewed by MSNBC. It finally hit me who his speaking style reminds me of:

So f’ing infuriating.

You had to be baking bread in-store prior to Sept 2023 so you can’t start now.

I own 1 store in San Diego but our franchise has enough stores nationwide that we fall under this bullshite rule.
Going to increase our payroll by about 25% and I only have part time college students that work in our store

Looks like every restaurant in Cali will start making loaves of bread to sell.

Ahh there it is. But I would imagine a lot of places besides Panera will qualify.

This is a textbook definition of government picking winners and losers.

Although... I have to wonder if this will make it harder for Panera, etc to hire employees.

California's new $20 minimum wage rule will exempt restaurants that sell bread

So this bill only applies to Cold Stone?

That clarifies things a bit. Still retarded though... half-assed bills are even worse somehow
