NYC has had a 47% increase in major crimes compared to 2019 in 2022.

If the Governor wants to try to brag about it, they can certainly try.

I mean, if it's not technically true, it's practically true. That doesn't mean crime isn't up from the staggering lows it was at 3 years ago.

Their own Government website say's crime has increased.
And it has. What has that got to do at all with the OP?

Fair enough. But violent crime in 2019 truly was absurdly low - like 60 year low. For homicide, it was almost literally a zero % chance of suffering a stranger on stranger homicide. Even up 50% from that number is WAY lower than it has been in other parts of our lifetimes.

It pisses me off how they have made NYC worse in the past 3 years. But it's a great city and will come back. It always does.

And it's the safest of the 6 largest cities...by a lot:

Does she think people move to cities and away from cities based solely on crime?

I would think cost of living has to be #1. NYC is #2 in the world for cost of living. Maybe that added with crime makes it an undesirable place to live. Maybe the governor needs to learn how to Google.

This can’t be true with all the systemic racism and a white supremacist in the Oval Office.

It’s almost as if she cannot conceive anyone wanting to leave New York City. Maybe they’re not leaving for another big city. People do live outside of cities

Is pretty safe. I feel like Boston is likely the Davey
Safest by crime numbers. If you take new york and only look at Manhattan they have pretty low crime. It's the other boroughs that take them down.

Being safer than Chicago, San Fran, LA, etc., is not a really high benchmark. You are just as dead in NY as you are in Chicago regardless of how the statistics play out.

Ha. Look, I'm happy to pile on their a-hole politicians. De Blasio was a disaster. But none of that changes the actual facts. NY was extremely safe headed into the pandemic. And even net of the negative changes, is still pretty damned safe. Particularly adjusted for it's size, I would argue it's amazing how safe it is. The governor really isn't off with these remarks.
