Born here yes. I guess that is the low bar these days. “American”, not really.

Though born in Chicago to a French father and Italian mother, Cardinal Prevost has deep roots in Latin America. Shortly after earning a degree in canon law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, he arrived in 1984, at just 29 years old, in the remote Andean region of Chulucanas, in northern Peru.

Prevost is an Augustinian, this is a continuation of the direction Francis started.
Possible.
But take heart. A pope cannot drag you to hell. You only go if you choose to go. My heart is fixed on God and following the path Jesus has set for me and his flock, no matter what's going on around me. Christ's church will not fail, though many in it will.

Real America's Voice political commentator Jack Posobiec and devout Catholic weighs in on Leo The XIV.....not impressed. Jack says all Catholics have to give Leo a chance but Jack says this Pope will likely fall inline with the progressives of the Catholic Church.

Prevost is outspoken about the need for urgent action on climate change. He recently stressed that the Church must move “from words to action,”
And with that, I’m out

Pope from Chicago USA
A massively progressive area that forced the TLM to essentially go underground.
Canceled something like 29 churches from saying it.
There maybe 1 left and I think it stopped too.
That's a bad sign.
Well see.

Listen to him speak. He is an American.

There was a theologian on Fox saying this Pope believes the church should reflect society. Doesn’t sound good to me.

Disappointing. He’s liberal on the major issues, and has a history of covering up sexual abuse cases. He’s a Francis guy through and through. Surprised everyone is upvoting it, he’s a poor choice that will continue the disgraceful internal culture in the central Catholic Church
I feel the same way as you. As a devout Catholic this selection makes me sad and mad. I really thought the Church would elect someone to focus on our Faith and not be into the politics of the world.
Then I read that he was instrumental is the cover up of pedo sexual activity. I would have hoped that the Cardinals would have avoided someone who played a role in that dark time. That cover up is as horrible a time in our Church as the selling of indulgences

If he was part of an order, he goes where the Prior General tells him to go as a Parish priest. Augustinians tend to operate in poorer urban areas. This is a continuation of Francis' outreach to the poor and marginalized.

Saying he is far left is crazy
quote:
On LGBTQ issues, The New York Times reported this week that in 2012, a year before the election of Pope Francis, Cardinal Prevost expressed disappointment that some Western media held “sympathy for beliefs and practices that are at odds with the gospel,” in particular, the “homosexual lifestyle” and “alternative families comprised of same-sex partners and their adopted children.”
