Yes, that’s literally the reason for this . It’s a group who opposes charter schools so they dig up this kid as a pawn to use for a lawsuit knowing it will break the school win or lose.

Look on the bright side....at least they didn't enroll him in flight school.

Someone is obviously setting this up to challenge the system.

Now, withholding admissions for someone who can pass the exam with accommodations is wrong and should be challenged. Is it really fair for someone’s hearing impaired child to not get the same benefits of the school if they are also gifted yet need instructions in sign or with the use of audio equipment? Of course not.

Repeat this part again and again.

This child is not gifted. He is afforded the opportunity to take the entrance exam. If he cannot pass, he doesn’t get in. He is being afforded the same opportunity as his non-disabled peers.

The parents are grifting off their disabled child. Shame shame shame

So due to his developmental disability which makes him unable to achieve in certain academic endeavors, he should be given a pass and allowed into a school every other kid there had to pass a test to get into?

Is that about right?
You left out:

hire specialized instructors and create from thin air a specialized curriculum, too.

Griggs v Duke Power Company has been disastrous for this country. This ruling means you cannot use criteria for admissions or hiring if it causes a disparate impact for a protected class.

What criteria cause disparate impact? Everything. The end result is that admissions and hiring are beholden to legal bureaucracy as opposed to any sort of objective measure.

The parents and lawyers are cunts.
People as a whole can't understand or accept that their children isn't exceptional.

It’s more that the parents can’t understand that their child isn’t entitled to everything the parents want because he is disabled.

I sure hope the attorney father hires every single disabled person that applies for a job at his law firm.

Next they can sue to get him on the track team, and football team....then they can sue for his injuries

Why can't parents just accept when their kids aren't worthy of certain things, good health or not?

I'm curious about how the courts will rule. There are no neighborhood schools in New Orleans so it seems like the child can just go to any of the open-enrollment schools.

The article itself says that he only has the cognitive abilities of a 1 or 2 year old. What public school is "appropriate" for him? The answer is none.

This was my first thought. The scumbag father clerked for, the ultra-liberal, Judge Robert Wilkins in the DC Court of Appeals so I'm sure he hates charter schools.

A couple years from now, he’ll sue Ben Franklin.

While Willow and Ben Franklin are good schools, they are always just one lawsuit and a bad judge away from being gutted. It's amazing Ben Franklin has had such longevity.

And also musicians and more than likely close friends of Cubbies. He is in a band called the New Orleans Moonshiners and she is a member of the Victory Belles.

I could not imagine using my child's disability for notoriety and monetary gain.

Are they though? Magnet schools exist in other parishes. If there is a legal argument justifying the establishment of selective-enrollment magnet schools in our state, couldn’t the same argument be applied to selective-enrollment charter schools?

This is a genuine question.

I was imagining people who are extremely soft when it comes to disabled children.

I mean while not being a lawyer I can't imagine wanting to fight it out on technicalities against a disabled kid.

Good point. Watching this shake out will be interesting. I’m writing my dissertation on the fallout from the privatization of the public school system in New Orleans so I’ll be paying close attention.
