Yes. I have family in Corning. Stock went crazy along with the internet stock bubble in the late 90's then crashed. I would go visit my in laws and look around the town and talked to folks and heard they were investing a lot of $ into fiberoptics and catalytic convertors (that could have both civilian and military applications :lol:). Around 2003, I took a flyer and bought around $2,000 bucks worth at approximately $5 per share and parked it and forgot about it, per se. My BIL called me in early 2025 and asked me about them and I started checking and watching this meteoric rise. Unreal.

It's beautiful country there on the Southern Tier of NY - very good gliding. It's also funny seeing a tech company in a small town in Upstate NY - you go to the Wegmans there and you see lots of Indians and Asians who work at Corning.

Edit since post: Just spoke to my MIL and it sounds like Corning Inc is making the slow march down to North Carolina.

I sat on a jury while a student at LSU, circa 1993, maybe. Defendant was a black male - 4 charges - sexual assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, kidnapping, and armed robbery. Victim was black female.

I think we only needed a super majority to convict, something like 10 of 12. Trial lasted about 3 hours and it was extremely one sided. Victim even testified. Very mixed jury of race, age, and sex. Jury went 10-2 guilty with the 2 non guilty being black females. During deliberations, it became clear to me they were going to vote not guilty but not because on racial lines but because they didn't want to be responsible for convicting someone. I learned a LOT about human behavior, stereotyping, etc for those few hours in the jury room that still have impact on how I deal with different groups (sex, race, etc) even today in business.

Sports need defined seasons and should never be year round, I’m looking at you baseball and softball!!!!

But even within travel ball, aren't those seasons defined by 4-6 month periods? Or if you sign up for a team, are you signing up for an entire year (meaning 12 consecutive months)?

One of my sons is a highly competitive wrestler and social media is killing these kids. NOT from the kids, but by the parents who see other kids at practices and camps and then it drives them to push their kids to train harder than the Bassetts (and don't get me started on cutting massive amount of weight as a teenager) and then quit other sports and activities they like.

I'm no perfect parent and I want my kids to excel like any other parent but damn, when I see parents intentionally placing their kids in easier high school classes so they can concentrate on their sports, I'm thinking - I have a feeling this is a very short sided decision.

Living in Philly in 2000 and going to a lot of sixers games - the Oakley / Tyrone Hill gambling debt subplot of the sixers / knicks games that season was absolute must listen to talk sports radio in Philadelphia . Straight out of 70’s era NBA off the court drama that could only work in those markets .

I spend too much time on my phone also but I know those numbers you’re seeing include when any apps are open like Waze or Spotify when driving
