Why would anyone want to take action to remove him from an elected office?

Because Orleans having two clerks of court, which is already a completely useless position when there is only one of them in a parish, is asinine and blatant grift.

Why do we even need public elections for someone whose only actual job is overseeing a department of secretaries that scan things in?

Removing Duncan’s seat only slows down criminal court process even more than it is now.

Why? What does a criminal clerk have to do with anything? Criminal case backlogs are because of lazy judges, pathetic LEO agencies, and underfunded DA and public defenders offices. Absolutely nothing to do with the people that sit in front of a computer and assign docket numbers via software lol.

One office full of secretaries scanning things in is plenty. Especially now that Louisiana has gone to E-filing for most things.

Clerks of Court are entirely useless as it is. Two of them? Haha. Just come out and say you want to add a few dozen secretaries to the parish’s retirement system. It would be less cringey of a position

Landry hates how the Nola populace despises him and Landry ego can not handle it. But hey Blaine the pipe fabricator from Livingston Parish enjoys Landry being a troll so it most be a good idea

As a lifelong New Orleanian who is still retardedly living here this is laughable. Nola is a fricking joke and a shell of what it was. No one gives a shite about Nola anymore except for a party and that’s going away too with all the issues.

We’re not the economic engine of the state anymore and haven’t been for a long time.

Nope. No one is entitled to public office.

And his redundant position was eliminated by the legislature. Period. There is no “he’s entitled to a public salary and benefits”. No. Nothing. The position is gone.

Your whining is a political matter. There is no legal matter here.

Liz Murril fought back and got in front of that issue. Had Murril not fought back do you think the case would have been dropped or pursued?
If SCOTUS grants cert and ultimately holds that the State’s abolition of this office under these circumstances violated the federal Constitution, would your position on whether pursuing this was a waste of resources change?

Seems like a waste of time for the US Supreme Court to dabble in such trivial matters.

Elections are such trivial matters. Maybe you would think the claim had merit if we framed this as a STOLEN ELECTION?

Why all the down votes here.

My position is sure the legislature has the right to eliminate the position, but it should be announced at the beginning of a term and carried out at the end of said term.

NOT after a campaign was invested in and run to a vote.

Give the man the term he was elected for and eliminate that clerks office when his term is over.

Why should he get that when he ran the campaign after the legislature already passed that the position was being removed? That's not the legislature, Landry's, or anyone else's problem.

This isn’t what happened. He won the election. AFTER he won the election, Landry wanted to undermine the will of the voters, and ultimately did by getting his crony to write the bill, his rubber stamp legislature passed it and Landry signed it into law. All AFTER the election.

What do you think is the source of hostility to this obvious statement of fact:
-Cubbies hate
-NOLA hate
-something else?

I’m not sure which the board hates more, tbh.

I’m disappointed that a few posters who I view as reasonable are feigning ignorance of the obvious democratic governance issue here.

ETA: the ones who will carpool with me to hear oral arguments.

Uhhh.. I think that's actually YOU. The state did what they are legally entitled to do. End of story. End of conversation. It's went to litigation. It's been resolved.

The end. Done. Finito.

You aren’t one of the posters who I view as reasonable, but your analysis is noted.

Like i GAS. I'd be worried if you did view me as reasonable. I'd be schilling for government redundancy if I was "reasonable" about this.

It's not an "analysis". It's your inconvenient truth. It's all over but your crying. Done.

Okay.... but they're not going to grant the writ. I understand your political position on this - what I haven't seen is ANY explanation of why abolishing this position before Duncan assumed office was illegal.

You are reasonable! You haven’t really weighed in on this so I don’t get to be disappointed in your absence of disdain for the government.
