IMDB describes this as "A historical epic inspired by the true events that happened in The Kingdom of Dahomey"

Let's run through all the leftist boxes checked on this one

1) Badass black female warriors, check

2) Killing white men, check

3) White men described as evil, check

4) African tribe as noble and brave, check

5) Main white male character looks like a wimp with slicked hair, check

6) African Kingdom is advanced, sophisticated, and of high morals. Main goals are freedom and protecting their people. Europeans are savages.

So let's actually look at the real history of the Kingdom of Dahomey.

quote:

The Kingdom of Dahomey was an important regional power that had an organized domestic economy built on conquest and slave labor,[

quote:

The growth of Dahomey coincided with the growth of the Atlantic slave trade, and it became known to Europeans as a major supplier of slaves.[2] As a highly militaristic kingdom constantly organised for warfare, it captured children, women, and men during wars and raids against neighboring societies, and sold them into the Atlantic slave trade in exchange for European goods such as rifles, gunpowder, fabrics, cowrie shells, tobacco, pipes, and alcohol.[5][6] Other remaining captives became slaves in Dahomey, where they worked on royal plantations and were routinely mass executed in large-scale human sacrifices during the festival celebrations known as the Annual Customs of Dahomey.

quote:

In the 1840s, Dahomey began to face decline with British pressure to abolish the slave trade, which included the British Royal Navy imposing a naval blockade against the kingdom and enforcing anti-slavery patrols near its coast.

Also for the Amazons (female warriors). They were only fighting because the men were off raiding villages and terrorizing them and they needed additional support. During a battle with the French, that the Dahomey started by attacking French settlements, all the Amazons and the Dahomeu warriors were wiped out by French bayonets, with only like 4 or 5 French casualties.

So the real story is Dahomey was one of the most bloodthirsty, vicous tribes or kingdoms in history. They would torture and rape their captives, behead them, sacrifice, and even cannibalize them. They were taking slaves well before the Europeans arrived, and only stopped because it was the Europeans who forced them with military action.

Facts don't care about feelings.

Hence, they are routinely ignored by the Left.

It's being pushed really hard with a robust marketing campaign. It will likely be a box office bomb and they will blame me for it.

"Da homey". Lmao, you can't make this shite up.

Or, apparently you can, if you are a racist Hollywood producer.

I’m guessing they’re going to leave out Dahomey’s influence in the slave trade all together.

A movie about the female army rising up against corrupt rulership intent on enslaving captives for sale to foreigners would have been a much better movie. (Even if it were equally false)

Thanks for the history. I was unaware of this. Unfortunately those that see it will see it as a historical story and all true and will not bother looking up actual history.

I agree with you, but at least it’s not Bridgerton or The Great, shows where black, brown and Asian people are active participants in 17th-18th European society.

There are very few movies and shows that are set in historical Africa, so at least they tried.
