We explain acronyms with more acronyms in the military.
In the military, everyone incurs an 8 year Mandatory Service Obligation (MSO). For those who enlist, their contracts can be a combination of active, reserves, or inactive ready reserves (IRR) time. So someone enlisting in the reserves can have a 4x4, 6x2, or straight 8 year contract where the first number is their active time and the second is their IRR time. TCOS (TPU Contractual Obligation of Service) date is the day their active service in the reserves ends and the IRR time starts. TCOS is an involuntary reassignment, meaning the soldier doesn't have a choice unless they convert their contract before that date. TCOS dates often referred to as ETS ( Expiration Term of Service) dates, but just because some hits their ETS doesn't mean their statutory obligation has ended. For soldiers who have been in long enough to have indefinite contracts, their ETS is usually their mandatory retirement date at age 60.
DDR is Drug Demand Reduction. We call it a DDR packet as short-hand for a specific involuntary separation process packet that is very lengthy and nobody likes putting together.

Anyone that has actually deployed knows that your unit is informed of the pending deployment WELL in advance so that soldiers can get their affairs in order before the pre-deployment training begins

Wrong. He knew they were going to get deployed and yet he still didn't go and why he was demoted. Yet he still states he went to war. No dude, that's a slap in the face to the men and women who went into combat.
