I missed that part of his post. He pretty much said the exact opposite.

Quit with the dramatics.

Just keep doing what you’re doing, don’t engage them when they bring up politics and change the subject, whatever you have to do.

You’ll be glad you did, I promise

Imagine spending your last precious months or years on this Earth obsessed with politics. That’s actually really sad.

my 104 year old ww2 vet great uncle went.
disgusting. didn't realize he became a traitor in his old age.

going to do my hardest to make sure he doesn't get a military gun salute at his funeral after this.

Older people seem genuinely nervous and scared... I'm not sure why. You'd think they'd be the most conservative among us, having lived through so much.

I have some elderly 80+ active relatives in TN, wouldn't be surprised in the least if they attended the Marysville No Kings.

Thanks. This is pretty much what I am doing. So much of their lives revolve around politics and Trump that it is sometimes hard to charge the subject.

I just keep reminding myself that they are loving parents, are still healthy, and are in relatively in good health despite their age. I should be so lucky.

Maybe I didn’t explain it very well. When I am with them I just want to talk about life, my children (their Grandchildren) and other non-political topics. They can’t help but eventually revert to talking about political BS in a very angry way.

I look forward to spending time with my dad tomorrow.

Old people watch too much news and it affects their perception of reality. And that happens for old people on both sides depending on what news channel they watch. It’s sad really.

Which location were they on the political spectrum when you were a kid? Were they formally on the right side?

I give people over 70 the benefit of the doubt no matter their beliefs. They grew up in a different time, and times always change.

And???… I think in your 90’s you got enough sand in the game to critique politicians… isn’t the whole MAGA slogan referring to your folks younger years..,

This seems so bizarre to me coming from a Christian home. Abortion alone would have my parents on the republicans side. When I hear things like this it reminds me how lucky I have been to have parents with most of the same views I have.

I think this goes back to the fact the democrats from the 70s would be considered radical right wing today argument.

Pretty sure my parents have always been democrats but the party has moved further to the right and they are stuck in just being in the Democratic Party and agreeing with anything that party supports.
