Yeah, just now hitting home from the benefit elections a month ago. Same plan, same number of beneficiaries, and I’ll basically pay 2k more in 2019. I know Health insurance goes up each year, but this is the steepest hike so far.

Any similar stories?

I like Kavanaugh, but I doubt that any decision that is made regarding the ACA is going to stem the ever rising tide that is health insurance cost. The fix is is and has been even before the ACA was passed. Your premiums were probably going up prior to the passage and since the passage they have gone up. I'm looking at it the last few days fr the business that I run and it started going up big time starting around 2006 and has not relented does not matter who is running the show.

Companies should be able to have their employees buy into medicare or medicaid if they'd like. You could even keep employer and employee contributions. Would be a lot cheaper than what we get with a lot of these private plans.

At what point does it stop increasing? It’s way outpacing normal inflation and at some point it won’t be worth the cost to where people and companies stop buying it.

Man I wish. What I meant is my health insurance is connected with my employer. Sorry if I’m not using the term properly. What is crazy is my employer pays over 3 times the amount I do.

I think the only way to drive the cost back down is more “employer based” coverage and offer different packages. Some people don’t need all the coverage so why make them pay to subsidize Medicaid?

I'd bet the majority of that is costs the business paid previously but is now punting to you.

Plus depending of the size of the employer one premature baby can blow the entire program costs.

Maybe so, I wish I knew how it broke down. 2018 had no new health events. The last change would have been in 2016. The hike from 2016 to 2017 was nowhere near this rate hike.

your premiums costs are based on a risk pool made up of your coworkers. Thank them for the increase

I just switched jobs and my new job covers my insurance premiums 100% with roughly the same coverage I was paying $400 or so pre tax per month before. Part of the reason I took the job was because the insurance was free. Makes a huge difference in the paycheck. Every year before the old place went up at least $30-50 per check while the coverage got a little worse.
