Good citizenship is based on things like taking care of neighbors, keeping your environment clean, education, empathy. Which requires people to act together to improve things.

But when you combine "Build a wall", "you have to go home", calling for a complete ban on Muslims entering the country, and "Make America Great Again" it more than implies that a large reason that we are no longer great is because of immigrants. Generally anti-immigrant sentiments were a core message in his campaign.
What do you think Trumps favorability rating would be if he was mostly silent on immigration? 50+%?
Drain the swamp resonates with both sides. Pulling out of foreign conflicts is something most citizens support. Paying less in taxes is something most citizens support. Demonizing brown people.. not that popular.
