I hear you, but you have to realize science and sports are the two things that are supposed to be incorruptible. Whether you watch Fox News, CNN, ABC, CBS, etc etc all you hear all day long is divisive vitriol. You avoid talking politics at work because you're so fed up with it all. Then you come home and get nagged by the wife and annoyed by the kids. You eat your shitty dinner and look forward to turning on the TV and watching the one thing that gives you escape and even IT has now been politicized. There's no escaping the SJW madness anymore. People want an escape. Sports are supposed to be that. When they become just like everything else, they lose their purpose.

Good! I guess you mean, then, that Merle Haggard, Lee Greenwood, Charlie Daniels, Hank Williams, Jr. are also a part of your CD collection and play rotation in your car, Shep. I feel certain that Sinead O'Connor and The Dixie Chicks are.

Much better doing that than for voting for a man who has assembled the most virulently anti gay administration in Washington in modern history.

My 2 cents.

Roger Goodell is 100% responsible for all of this. He had the ways and means by simply following the same NFL set of rules and guidelines he and every other commissioner before him has used to enforce a uniform code of conduct by all employees of the NFL.

But he didn't.

My opinion is that in this instance he was afraid of being labeled a racist from the very vocal left. Calling people "racist" is part of their MO for anyone that has an opposing view to them. He knew when this all started he was 1 year out from his new NFL contract and was probably trying to avoid a publicity nightmare.

which is why the NFL has rules in place preventing them from sharing any personal views or agendas during games.

I know where you are coming from. I personally agree with that approach.

The fact is, though, that tons of entertainers don't roll like that. And the market sorts it out.

NFL owners can fire these guys anytime they want to, anyway. Again, that's the market.

It's not any limpdick politician's place to call for anyone's job that doesn't fall under his own purview.

Paid entertainers be it LeBron or George Clooney need to understand they are little more than the organ grinders monkey, the music plays and they dance, no one cares what the monkey thinks about.

oftentimes I've referred to Hollywood types, sports figures, etc. as modern day court jesters, until they prove otherwise (so far most haven't) that'll be the way I view them.

or you sure rule 1 isn't to be entertaining? I think that is the key here, the NFL is becoming less entertaining already and the public just needed a reason to change Sunday plans. Right now I watch a game about 30 percent of the time, it doesn't take much to have me make that number 0.

That is the fan they are going to lose, those that weren't entertained

First thing she's said on this thread that I agree with. Both sides are milking this for all the manufactured outrage they can get.

At the end of the day, my guess is that this is a mile wide and an inch deep.

With all their business, marketing, advertising, player scouts, and coaching decisions, the NFL, advertisers, and the league commissioner are blissfully unaware of this simple concept. It's not new. It's business 101 and the NFL and team owners are discovering this the hard way.
Yeah, the NFL is unaware of how to market their product. That's how it's become a billion-dollar business annually; pure luck, right?

Some of you are trying too hard.

Honestly, I feel as though this whole thing is easy to ignore if all you are trying to do is be entertained, which is why pretty much everyone watches, as you say. There is no protesting during tje actual games.

Besides the commentators possibly briefly mentioning it during the game, why not just watch the game at kickoff? Seems like you can let this bother you as much or as little as you would personally like.
