At least do a little research on the 30 06 slug. 400 ft/s is way off. It’s 2700 to 3000 ft/s.

Apparently the surgeon found the slug in Charlie’s neck while trying to save his life. (Unconfirmed but I’ve seen accounts of this.)
Look it possible that the soft lead bullet hit his spin and deflected downward. It just seems improbable for such a high caliber round. Totally believable for a .22 but not a .3006. .223 is even believable.
