First off, this is about backchannels during transition period. Not at all out of ordinary for transition teams to seek backchannels. It is actually the norm.
Secondly, if you need to establish a connection with russia AFTER the election, it would seem to indicate you didn't have a stream of communication before the election.

The article suggests an acknowledgement by investigators that this was the first time the two camps began communicating. This is now the worst case scenario? Lmao

And establishing another connection through Prince doesn't indicate that previous channels (be they through Manafort, Page, Stone, Flynn, Deripskaya, or others) didn't already exist.

It doesn't matter if it was Pre-election or even during the election...talking to Russians is not illegal, making deals with Russia or Russians is not illegal (depending on the specifics) either. Exchanging information with Russia is not illegal.
Trump could've been caught on a live mic stating "just wait till after I'm elected and I'll be free to work with you" and it would not be illegal.
Neither man nor God has declared, "thou shalt not speaketh to thine Russians, so shall it be written, so shall it be!"

Bob is having his day, but if any of this crap ever goes to court it might not go well for him. Someone with the means to take him on and some good attorneys will make mincemeat out of him.

The more that Meuller goes into the weeds investigating *collusion* (which is NOT a criminal offense), the more He incriminates His own Investigation as it IGNORES the obvious Uranium 1/HRC corruption. The whitewash of Hillary's Emails, Her funding of the fraudulent Steele Dossier in order to "wiretap" the Trump Campaign by DOJ/FBI Operatives...is a 100 ton elephant in Meuller's room.
Does Meuller really think that He can show up to Congress with a 'report' that ignores the above, and be taken seriously, or as not being part of a coverup of the which HE was a main player (U-1).
When the OIG/Horrowitz Report comes out and if it don't encompass the above and lead to a Grand Jury to subpoena these folk (Meuller included) where damning evidence is in full view...then hell will break loose. As it should.

Serious question, before Obama won, he was hot-miked telling a diplomat that he'll have more leeway after the election, and that s EXACTLY what Mueller is looking for on Trump. No investigating needed, why isn't Barak cgarged?
