Model student from Long Island currently in Louisiana detention center.
If she picked lettuce or worked in a hotel, Trump's ICE wouldn't be frickin' with her right now.

What is HSI and when did they suspend habeas?

Is he wrong? Cops can briefly detain individuals based on reasonable suspicion - a lower standard than probable cause. Are you saying ICE cannot briefly detain based on reasonable suspicion?

She may have had temporary residency or student visa that lapsed. This stuff isn’t as simple as everyone thinks. Not all immigrants with citizenship issues are just living off grid. There isn’t anything to suggest that the family snuck in or was trying to hide it. If their status was being actively litigated, there is no reason they need to be in a detention center. Just litigate it.
I work in a field with plenty of people on work visas.
She should have gone home until the visa was approved.
We had people this happened to and it caused significant problems for the rest of us.
We still followed the law

I’m sure ICE had a good reason.
The good reason is that she was here illegally.
That’s the reason.
If I’m speeding and I don’t get a ticket doesn’t mean I didn’t commit a violation.
I’m just lucky I didn’t have it enforced.
Hence why I don’t go to the press and talk about my gpa when it does get enforced.

Appreciate the perspective. I don’t rub elbows with many under temporary legal status in my day to day.

Sara followed steps to legally migrate to the United States and does not have a criminal record. The Colombian national was in the midst of obtaining her permanent residency, a lengthy process.
A. She's been a college student in the US for awhile. She's had lots of time.
B. "was in the midst of obtaining her permanent residency". What does that mean? She sent in an application last week? A month ago? My opinion on this is that she likely did it recently with Trump being President, not years ago when she should have done it. In that event, tough shite, tits. Gotta' go back now and do it legally.

Well either you are in such a soft non technical non in demand field that you never encountered a J1 or H1B visa OR never important enough to know the status of those below you.
So congrats on the BA In journalism I guess?

It’s a fricking community college.

You know I skimmed through this thread, and really the only thing you can take from it is that MAGA loves, loves, loves its red meat. Loves it so much in fact that it will cockgobble it over anything substantive or the least bit meaningful.
MAGA for instance, willfully ignores President Trump's corporate "carve outs" (or more appropriately sell outs) for illegal, imported labor. Be that agriculture, hospitality or any industry in this country that relies on illegal aliens for its labor force. But they'll get politically horny for shite like this all the time.
It's as though Trump's acquiescence to corporate labor interests, and his utter refusal to punish employers just doesn't matter to them. But give MAGA a little deportation porn they can toss off to and they're satisfied.
MAGA's a peculiar political movement. They're all about symbolism over substance. It's more than a little surprising.

Idk if you were insulted by that comment or what’s going on here, but I was being earnest.
What I do is more in the field of science. I work with one native born Indian, but he is a citizen according to his application. It’s HR‘s job to follow up on that not mine.

Being ok with a student who knowingly overstayed their visa being held accountable does not mean that they are ok with corporate carve outs.
Am I throwing a party over this girl being deported? No.
Am I shedding a tear for her? Also no.
Any employer and/school should be held accountable as well.

She's illegal.
She needs to go.

I have been thinking that if the Democrats were not so hysterical in their reactions to everything Trump says/does that they would have a decent argument here.
They could maintain appearance, if not actual substance, of upholding the law but also have a strong anti-Trump argument.
Instead, they call enforcement of the law facist/Nazi and encourage violence against those enforcing the law.

See the thing is, I bet you can’t define MAGA. I’ve never once called myself that. People who voted for Trump have all different views on this issue. Some believe we don’t need any foreign workforce at all and some think it’s a necessity. You are painting with a broad brush. I largely voted for Trump because of the alternative. So I take the good with the bad because elections are always the lesser of two evils. It’s interesting people make posts like yours but don’t say how the person they voted for would be better. Do you think letting even millions more in and then mass amnesty is would be a benefit? That’s what Kamala would have done.

She can apply for citizenship the right way. In the meantime she can help her country. You don’t think her country needs bright star community college students?
