I said 'ALL' cheerleaders were male. Texas A&M didn't have football in those days. The history of 19th century college football is fascinating. No female cheerleaders and no head coaches. The captain on the field made all the game decisions. Eleven players often played both offense and defense. It was rough stuff until Teddy Roosevelt threatened to ban it due to hospitalizations.
