Minnesota: We Will Use Race To Decide Who Gets COVID Monoclonal Antibodies

The Minnesota public health agency has prioritized non-white residents in the rationing of monoclonal antibodies
quote:
Minnesota’s state health department has adopted new ethical standards that include considering a person’s skin color in determining who can receive a potentially life-saving treatment for Covid-19 patients.
quote:
At issue is allocation of monoclonal antibodies, which have been in hot demand and short supply after proving effective in helping prevent Covid-19 illnesses from becoming severe. The lab-created antibodies help a patient’s immune system fight disease.
quote:
Minnesota’s revised “ethical framework” for the rationing of medical care was posted late last week, and noted that “race and ethnicity alone, apart from other underlying health conditions, may be considered in determining eligibility” for monoclonal antibody therapies (mAbs).
quote:
The state is using a scoring system to determine the level of priority a patient should be given in determining eligibility for mAbs. A non-white racial status is worth two points in the system – the same weighting given to such categories as being 65 or older, or being 55 or older and having cardiovascular disease.
quote:
The policy means that if a white patient and a black patient are both 70 years old and suffering from cardiovascular disease, the white person would have a screening score of four and the black person would get six points, assuming neither has other pre-existing conditions that merit special consideration.
quote:
Depending on how severe mAbs shortages become, those scores could make the difference between which patient gets treatment. The state has advised healthcare providers to deprioritize patients with low screening scores and to ratchet up the eligibility bar “as scarcity deepens.”
“What is your age, mother?”

Do they not have any copies of the Constitution in Minnesota?

Why does Minnesota need monoclonal antibodies? It’s a blue state and all of the people there are vaxxed and boosted, right? And they vax works, right?

So the whites of Minnesota are going to get what they voted for?

Why are MA still in short supply? Why hasn't the most efficacious treatment been given a blank check to prevent supply issues, instead of hit-and-miss antiviral jabs?

Imagine still thinking this matters.

to extend the pandemic fear to past the mid terms. They know they will have to work far more diligently to steal this next election.

This can’t be legal. We also have enough for everyone in the country

At this point, is there any benefit to being a white male?

Response: That old piece of paper written hundreds of years ago by racist and sexist old white men?

Regeneron doesn’t spend enough on lobbying.
Certainly not as much as Pfizer or Merck. Not even as much as Gilead.
If you compare the amount of money lobbying to the usage of therapeutics in the fight against Covid, you’ll find a clear correlation.

This is just what they are saying publicly. Privately all the Norse whites are still getting privilege.

Equitable treatment for all, comrade.

I have my doubts as well. Unless they truly have the data to back this up (which on its face, seems unlikely).
quote:
Certain priority groups will have higher chances of success relative to groups with the base chance:
? Groups that MDH determines, based on available data, have conditions or factors associated with
eligibility for mAbs that elevate risks of progression to severe disease significantly more than others.
? It is permissible for patients to be prioritized for allocation of mAbs based on race/ethnicity and/or
disability status, if warranted given the guidance about determining priority above. The ethical
justification for such priorities will reflect the data demonstrating elevated risks for these populations,
and not moral judgments about the relative social worth of particular groups or arguments about
reparations for historical injustices related to race, ethnicity or disability status.
quote:
What allocation decisions should not consider or be based upon
? Race; ethnicity; gender; gender identity; sexual orientation or preference; religion; citizenship or
immigration status; or socioeconomic status (this does not limit consideration of factors like race or
ethnicity in clinical prognostication, if data indicates that such factors are associated with heightened risks
of progression to severe COVID-19).
