#BREAKING: Minnesota Catholics and Lutherans tell @GovTimWalz they are reopening churches on May 26—after the Governor announced malls, salons, tattoo parlors, & casinos can open, but churches can’t. https://go.aws/3e40Cit #MNChurchesMatter @MNCatholicConf @Mnnlcms @MNSDistrict
The leadership of over 700 Catholic and Lutheran churches, represented by @BECKETlaw & @SidleyLaw, told @GovTimWalz and AG @keithellison that the First Amendment doesn’t let the government put churches at the back of the line during reopening.
Minnesota’s re-opening plan lets people seek retail therapy at the mall, but not spiritual solace at church. Today’s press conference underscored @GovTimWalz’s failure to appreciate the integral role of faith in the well-being of the community.
Catholic and Lutheran churches will hold in-person worship services for their congregations starting on 5/26 while instituting rigorous social distancing and hygiene protocols to prevent the spread of #COVID19. First Sunday services will be on Pentecost Sunday, 5/31
Minnesota and @GovTimWalz cannot treat religious believers as second-class citizens while prioritizing malls, casinos, liquor stores, tattoo parlors, & pet grooming.
Gov. Walz said today he is eager to open services that are “integral to what makes us human”—like restaurants, bars, campgrounds, and concerts. But no offer of any date for reopening churches.
The First Amendment doesn’t let the Governor discriminate against communities of faith or prioritize money, grooming, and leisure over spiritual well-being.
The ball is in the Governor’s court to respect #ReligiousFreedom and promote the full well-being of all Minnesotans. LINK

It’s amazing how Democratic governors are taking every chance they can to shite on churches in all of this. You’d think they would try to hide it until they’re in charge at the national level and the camps are ready.

Well, I am not certain the First Amendment allows the government to have say in when churches can and cannot meet...

Pretty sure the right to free assembly is in the Bill of Rights.

They're fricking with the absolute most volatile facet of the 1A. There will be some serious constitutional issues in the wake of all this.

Glad to see Catholics/Lutherans, not normally considered radicals, standing up for their rights and denying the Governor the "consent of the governed".
The vast majority just do what their told.

Is that the "restrained" version or the "unrestrained" version...
I am having trouble keeping up with the twists and turns and the betterment of society as a whole over the rights of the individual to exist line of thinking...

One of the biggest issues these governors are going to have isn't reopening, it's the potential need to shut some things down again in the fall.
They've pushed this too far and used up all their goodwill. Nobody is going to listen to them or fall in line if this thing comes back strong later in the year.

Based on what we are seeing now, no one should listen to anyone that wants to shut this stuff down again...

Boosie and hank will be along shortly to tell us all why the Constitution doesn't matter at all when some dipshit governor says the magic words: "emergency powers"

'I Can't Believe Christians Think It's Safe To Go Back To Church,' Says Woman In Line At Walmart
quote:
AUSTIN, TX—Local woman Heather Karenson told her fellow Walmart shoppers Tuesday that she can't believe some churches and small businesses think it's safe to reopen already.
quote:
As the herd of people pressed in close together, waiting to pay for their stuff for two hours at the one open register, the woman ranted about how dumb some Christians are for going back to church already.
"Close proximity with all those people, singing and stuff? Man, those people are really anti-science," she said as she waited in line with 57 other people, pushing a cart that hadn't been cleaned in days. "It's like, read one of those sciency books, you know? Or watch that science guy on TV."
While she spoke, fourteen different people slipped by her to grab items from end caps, all of them coughing on her.
Luckily for her, she was smart and brought her mask, though it got uncomfortable so she just let it dangle from her chin the whole time.

It’s crap. Services limited to 10 people, regardless of the size of the venue, and no singing.
Can you imagine the carnage of packing 11 people into this space?

Well played by the MN Churches. I'm on the fence here: 1. I'd love to see people return to church peacefully, but 2. I'd kind of would like to expose the Dems in MN as anti-christian.

Better hope the Supreme Court stays right over the next four years.
