Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) shut down a proposal to force a Senate vote on the SAVE America Act, drawing pushback from fellow Republican Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), who maintains the party still has ways to advance the bill.

The disagreement sparked online after Cornyn reposted a comment saying Senate Republicans could pass the legislation over Democrat objections.

“We’ve got 50 votes as of last week. That’s all we need. Force Democrats to hold a talking filibuster and then pass it with JD’s help. Include it in reconciliation vote by ignoring the advice of the parliamentarian. Or change the cloture threshold,” the post stated.

Cornyn rejected the idea, saying, “Not gonna happen, and every one (except the naive or misinformed) knows it.”

Lee later reposted Cornyn’s comment and pushed back on the Texas Republican’s claims.

“It could happen if we put the SAVE America Act on the floor with strong resolve to continue debating it until it passes,” Lee wrote. “I’m neither naive nor misinformed. I’m just unwilling to pretend we have no ability to avoid failure.”

“We can pass it if we ignore the parliamentarian, change Senate rules, and force endless debate” isn’t a legislative strategy. It’s the political equivalent of a kid explaining how he’d win the Super Bowl if the field were shorter, the clock stopped counting, and touchdowns were worth 50 points.

Cornyn is such a POS. The embodiment of Texas GOP.

I recognize that’s going to trigger some folks, but it’s true.

Prog figs are scared to death that an election that was secured would have radically different results and that the illusion would disappear.

Much of the Southern GOP operates this way.

You’re arguing with someone you’ve invented. I criticized Mike Lee’s understanding of Senate procedure. Somehow you’ve translated that into “you oppose voter ID.”

Feel free to show your work.

Fair. Many are formerly southern democrats that switched parties under Bush the first.

Cornyn seems as vindictive as McCain.

Cornyn, you're going home because you refuse to do the right thing, and every one (except your naive self) knows it.

Image the transfer of wealth and power if the illusion were to be destroyed.

People like Cornyn and their life’s work would evaporate. They feed off the illusion.

A great, great example of why he was voted out. It would be very interesting to see elections with rules enforced uniformly, instead of cherry picked as some states do.

Maybe I’ve missed it, but what’s the reason he doesn’t support this?
