just spitballing but could it be that GOP's and McCarthy's calculus is Diane Feinstein's senate seat in 2024? Maybe he believes a win of the speaker seat builds his resume to then run for Feinstein's seat. Just trying to imagine a scenario that would motivate GOP congress members to vote him in. McCarthy already has a lot of votes from GOP Congressmen who are not RINOs. So why?

Well, America 1st didn't "win" a majority in the midterms.
It's not like they can ramrod their agenda through now.
I don't like it, but I believe it's true.
So with McCarthy - we get nothing.
With 10-15 America 1st Reps....we get nothing.
Sounds true.

That would make him the biggest idiot ever. A Republican has absolutely zero chance of winning that seat.

- I don't want Bobby Boucheron in charge either.
- Term limits.... I think you would have to amend the constitution....or is this just for show....oh yeah, I forgot Matt Phineas Barnum Gaetz.
- Border plan...all right I would like one as well but the only way is in negotiating with the Executive Branch and the Democrats control it and the Senate. Biden is not interested in negotiating with Gaetz or Roy or Biggs much less Jordan.
You are looking for a battle plan? Then coalesce around someone sane. Present a military bill that Biden will sign...he probably would and then play you just like Clinton
I am not a McCarthy fan, but I am less a fan of showboats like Gaetz, Jordan, Boebert and Roy or Gohmert. Find a rep like Graves or one of the guys from TN preferably. Don't go for a non voting Speaker like Zeldin .

Isn’t that what he’s doing here with the Speaker….driving for real change?

Gaetz is 100% right!!!
This is what America First and Drain the Swamp looks like.
Someone needs to tell Trump that.

Hmmm, I am not a politician, but it seems some people in Congress are trying to do something.
Should he invade the capital with his musket and tricorn hat and declare the Republic is again a republic?
"Gaetz, Boebert and some others went to the mic to discuss this McCarthy stuff. Here are some notes from Gaetz (trying to paraphrase him here):
- If you want to drain the swamp, you cannot put the biggest alligator in charge, "I'm a Florida man, I know these things."
- We sought a vote on term limits, he refused.
- We wanted a balanced budget on the floor, he refused.
- We wanted a border plan on the floor, he refused.
- We struggle with trust of McCarthy. He shifts like the sands. His own mentor said 'the lies always change.'
- McCarthy fails time and again.
- For months we've been asking McCarthy for a 'battle plan' and got a whole lot of nothing from him. No assurances for those in the military, farm bill, etc.
- We prefer a unity of purpose, but we will not allow the uni-party to continue to run this town.
- There is no difference between Pelosi and McCarthy, both from California.
- McCarthy acknowledges that DC is broken, and he's part of the problem.
- We reached out to McCarthy and he gave us nothing and he thought that if he went on Fox and other networks that he could brow-beat us into submission.
- Everything I've heard has hardened my resolve in the fact that this town needs change and if it's a few of us that must stand in the breach to force it to happen, then so be it."
What else can he do, pray tell, when you are blocked at every angle even from your side?

Gaetz is sharp as a razor blade.
quote:Well, you see, THAT is the problem. Every congressman or woman is hamstrung by the current way that congress is ran. Think about the Senate. Does ANYTHING get on the senate floor for debate that isn't approved by Dem leadership? The same goes for the House. If McCarthy were to run the House under the same set if restrictions that Pelosi had on what gets considered and what doesn't, then McCarthy is just more of the same. Bought, packaged and rubber stamped legislation. No possible consideration for new ideas and debate. Just more of the same uni-party crap being fed to us every fricking day.
If only he would direct his skills towards being an effective member of Congress instead of producing sound bites for Twitter.
In it's current condition, all Gaetz CAN do is bark and growl. No congressman can make an individual difference. Even Jim Jordan, who I think is really talented and would make a great speaker, has ZERO legislation he's introduced that has passed and what he's introduced has only been political maneuvering, not reform or social legislation.

How does that start sans a Convention of the States?
Maybe a bill in Congress?

I'll keep saying it - stop voting for incumbents. There is no way that more than 10% of Congress should be re-elected in 2024.
Very true……BUT we must not be fooled into voting for their “hand picked” or the RNC’s hand picked candidates

It takes balls to stand up and make a speech? In a seat you have zero chance in losing as long as you remain a registered Republican?
Ironically, you’ve located the problem without really realizing it.

I don't trust her anymore because since she is opposing the change that we want.

but I have no idea how it requires balls to make a speech and say Jim Jordan's name.
How often do you see congress critters openly oppose their party leadership? I'm not saying Gaetz is Spartacus, but he's doing something that needs to be done. He doesn't have to; he's not going to lose his seat any time soon, as you pointed out.
He could take it easy, make all the cocktail parties and get better committees or he could challenge ineptitude. I'd prefer he do the latter.
