There will be a bunch of backlash and the admin. will backpedal on this in a day or two. Trump has floated things like this before.

This is very likely the correct answer.

Even though the amnesty will only be for work visas.

That's far too much nuance for MAGA.

Over 80% of new jobs since Covid have gone to foreign born workers while NILF (Not in labor force) numbers for Americans have climbed to the highest level yet. MAGA is tired of nuance. Some of it is boomers retiring it but we also have record numbers of those who have given up on job searches.

quote:

Over 105 million Americans are "not in the labor force". This means they are age 16 or older, not working, and not looking for a job. This group includes retirees, students, stay-at-home parents, and disabled individuals. It also includes people who gave up looking for work.

The Numbers at a Glance

The data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics breaks down as follows:Total not in the labor force:

Over 105 million Americans.

Percent of total population: About 38.5% of Americans aged 16 and older.

Want a job now: Roughly 6 million of these non-workers state they want a job, but are not actively searching.

Discouraged workers: About 500,000 are "discouraged," meaning they stopped looking because they believe no jobs are available for them

Why This Matters

The official "Unemployment Rate" only counts people who are actively searching for jobs. When people stop looking, they leave the labor force entirely. A larger number of people outside the workforce can lead to labor shortages for businesses and a smaller tax base to support government programs.

Work visa and amnesty are 2 VERY DIFFERENT THINGS

for example kids in Argentina get work visas in their summer to work ski resorts in USA during our winter…..

Amnesty lets ileagals stay permanently…

And that should not be happening.

I am surrounded by rice fields and crawfish ponds. Mexicans run the traps out here.

You can’t tell me the farmers, I know them well, can’t pay a high school kid $12/hr to run these traps.

I cut grass and weedeated for minimum wage and pressure washed houses and buildings for cash.

We have a lazy entitled culture and they must be forced to work.

Can they? Yes.

Would they? Yes (assuming equal work product)

Will American high school kids work that job for $12/hour? No

In Louisiana, it's probably Honduran's. Not Mexicans. We can't get rid of the Hondurans that invaded after the hurricanes.

Having spent time in both countries and around both cultures, I would trust a Mexican way more than any Honduran.

It's actually closer to 90%, according to some sources, but I rounded down to avoid sounding too hyperbolic.

Which half the board said from the jump and were yelled at for.

The fact that this keeps coming up tells you how hard the GOPe and donor class is pushing for it along with the H1Bs to keep labor costs down and I think Trump is sympathetic to them as a business owner.

If he does this it’ll be the end for part of his base, hopefully he understands that.

For all the JD Vance champions screaming for him to run, I don't see how they can support him, considering he is married to an Indian and has ties to big tech. He too will be sympathetic to H1Bs. Around 73% of all H1Bs go to Indians.

Don’t have examples of JD Vance advocating for H1B?

Here is evidence he doesn’t:
quote:

JD Vance strongly opposes the broad/current use of H-1B visas, especially when they displace American workers or suppress wages. He has consistently criticized the program as abused by corporations for cheap labor rather than bringing in exceptional “super geniuses,” and he has supported aggressive administrative actions to restrict it.

-Newsweek
quote:

Actions in the Trump administration: As Vice President, he has touted a ~90% drop in new H-1B visas through measures like a $100,000 fee on certain petitions, lottery limits, fraud probes (with subpoenas), and enforcement prioritizing American workers. He frames this as protecting the “dignity of human work” and putting “America First.”

quote:

Vance wants to restore the program’s original intent for truly exceptional talent (e.g., top scientists/engineers who studied in the U.S.) while rejecting the idea that America lacks domestic talent for most roles. He has pushed back against the notion of importing a “foreign class of servants.”

Could he end up selling us out? Sure.

But he’s been consistently opposed to mass H1B use.

I like JD FWIW, but I also think he is in a 4-year campaign, so he will say what he feels the base wants to hear. I will remain skeptical about his H1B stance based mostly on his big tech ties.

The most consistent R right now has been Ron DeSantis. I hope he runs again and ditches the campaign advisors who had him acting like a robot.

Those positions and quotes go back to his time in the senate.

quote:

I’m skeptical of everyone until it results in action, but in terms of his stated position it’s better than almost anyone on the right and would certainly be better than Rubio who is the only other real option for the next cycle.

DeSantis has gotten more done than anyone on the right in my lifetime, my preference would be a Vance-DeSantis ticket since I’m losing him as governor either way during that cycle.

I remember when he was updating Ka$h's nomination I recall hearing he was a poser plant.

I wish I could remember the full establishment company man story...

Taco Bell is paying $18/hr where I live and you think kids are gonna work a field for $12?

It’s not that complicated. These businesses just don’t want to pay competitive wages so they get the chamber of commerce to lobby for quiet mass illegal migration and H1B so they can decrease labor costs.

H1B is to tech what illegals are to factories/farms/construction.

The inverse of "you're worth what someone is willing to pay you" is also true: the job is worth whatever it costs to get the caliber of employee you need.

"Americans are too lazy, nobody wants to go work in a field in Louisiana in the summer for $12/hour!" Then pay more. If $12/hour gets you drug addicts and felons, then you have to pay more.

When highschool kids can start at $13/hour bagging groceries at Publix, why the hell would they perform manual labor for less than that?
