In Louisiana, it's probably Honduran's. Not Mexicans.
It’s mostly Mexicans, (at least around Welsh) and it’s an experience process. The Honduran’s and El Salvadorans usually are on roofing crews. Poor guys come with nothing and wire all their money home before they go back. Otherwise the cartels steal everything.

Oh. The shitty Tyson chicken nuggets will go up 15% in price. What will I do?

The cartels are stealing everything for a bit anyway.
It’s about $20,000 to get a coyote to bring you across if an illegal is paying by himself. If they aren’t, someone is paying that. The funding mechanism for paying the coyotes would be a good pinch point as I suspect the companies who wash the IDs of the immigrants for employment purposes are in on paying the cartels back.

We used to have to go to Lake Charles and hire an attorney to do all the paperwork. Then they would come and inspect everything (living quarters etc). They would spot check as well, and you better not have an illegal. Otherwise you lose your labor for the next year. No one I know chances that. Even the sugarcane guys. They need an army of labor compared to a rice/crawfish/cattle farm.

Why would "big labor" groups want to allow in cheap workers?
Get the fricking basic definitions right in clickbait bullshite.

That's because they have shitty parents.
My boys will be physically working as soon as a 1099 can be issued to them legally.
My 11 year old has been cutting grass for a year now and he gets paid $5 every time he cuts plus an extra $5 to weedeat. He gets paid $5 to wash our vehicles.
If he bitches about it, he still has to wash our vehicles but he does it for free.

Wait what?
Are you talking about illegal aliens? Because that's not what was being discussed.

They can get fast food jobs for $15/hour+ these days.

Why hasn’t ICE gotten some of these illegal hiring fricks?
Posted on 7/21/26 at 9:42 am to SlowFlowPro
We are paying the H2-A visa labor better than $15 per hour. Most of them won’t come for less than $20. You have to pay the good ones or someone else will get them.

And?
If that's their path and they choose to go work in a fast food restaurant, then great.
But that's not the point, and get this....some country boys would rather run traps and do manual labor for less than what an air conditioned kitchen in a fast food restaurant can offer!
Wow! Imagine that.
The point is to learn a lesson that we will always work, that we should look down on people that accept handouts for life and leech off of society, and that we take pride in providing for ourselves.
***Editing to say that fast food workers making $15/hr is a god damned travesty and part of the reason we are in this mess.
frick every single one of you democrats that believe in minimum wage in general.

Enough to replace foreign labor?

Because people would rather hire an Oscar over a Tyrone.
Let's say you are a Baton Rouge hotel. Are you hiring the locals for football season? Or are you bringing in J1 visas from Thailand and eastern Europe? And remember, the locals aren't LSU students, they aren't cleaning hotel rooms.

The minimum wage in Louisiana is $7.25 per hour. It has nothing to do with a discussion about fast food workers getting $15/hour in LA.

Tomi Lahren has to have this backward and Big Labor has always been against cheap illegal alien labor replacing Union jobs.

Relative to crawfish farmers and rice farmers helping hands, YES.
Jesus Christ. You're talking about 5-6 employees max.

The government forcing employers to page any wage is immoral and against the founding principles of this country. Period.
No one is forcing anyone to stay at an employer. The labor market, the willingness and competency of any employee, and the merit should drive labor wages. PERIOD.
