I was directing that at the bill for the equipment part.
That's a shitty NEM arrangement btw.

How would it work at night without large banks of batteries?

they are actually not that large. Tesla already has this market covered as welll as others. A friend of mine has solar panels and two Tesla stg batteries that power her whole house 24 hrs a day... the batteries are cheaper than the solar panels as I understand.

Yeah, I'm not seeing anything there that makes it clear she knows you can store power.

Decidedly the opposite in fact. "Sun goes down, lights go off." is what she said.

I don't know what she knows about it. What's clear is that she made an idiotic point that at least demonstrates that she can't articulate simple concepts.

She's right. The sun doesn't shine at night. And wind usually calms at night unless there is a front or storm.

Ok then add electric cars into the mix. 1 for every family let's say. Would crash the current electrical grid 5 times over. Power for a city like NY would require a solar farm in the neighborhood of like 500 square miles with today's need. There is nothing with that size even close to NYC.

This is true. When you look at the MISO page, as I’m sure you do, why do you see the MW usage go up for fossil fuels at night? Like there is an exponential decrease of solar and wind on the grid at night?

Why do you think most coal, gas, and CCGTs are fired harder at night even though they’re more efficient at night, and power usage is less at night?

Wind speeds are higher during the day and solar is fairly obvious. Definitely some hyperbole about wind at night but honest fact checkers would say mostly true.

But yes, you not knowing that the sun doesn't shine at night and the surface wind speeds drop clearly mean MTG is completely retarded.

The question was how can solar power a home when the sun goes down…

And I agree with you on the point of high density populated areas. I am on the belief that solar and wind are just supplements.

I dealt with this, we just had to have a bank of batteries to store the excess power.

You can't afford enough solar panels to produce "excess" power.

About 9% of electric generation in the USA is from hydro. EIA sourced.

I would admire your tenacity. But in this case you’re trying to convince yourself.

There are quite a few good battery solutions on the market. Teslas is nice. PV vs ESS cost is a funny conversation. Technically the storage is less than the PV, but they’re not as refined tech yet so they’ll fail and degrade at a higher rate. Plan on 10k for the first PowerWall then 6500 for each additional. 2 is really min if you want while home capabilities. I run 4 but that’s for 2 houses and a barn.

Solar panels, in fact, do not produce energy at night.
