Wouldn't it just be cheaper giving the money directly to chosen business owned grocery stores in accounts for poor shoppers?

Who even ARE "the people of New York"?

Are they fellow citizens? Fresh immigrants? Illegals? Usurpers?

Are there many Americans in NYC? I honestly don't know.

Last I looked NY has negative domestic migration, aka more Americans are leaving than coming.

But they are able to maintain overall increase in population due to immigration.

Americans are leaving the state and being replaced with immigrants.

There's dozens of better strategies to achieve what he's trying to achieve.

I don't recognize that the problem even exists, but there are ways to at least attempt to fix his imaginary problem that don't actual cause even worse real problems.

Lead official for Mayor Mamdani's NYC Groceries tells me city may give grants to local grocers fearing competition from city-run stores "policies and programs, grants, incentives that can come alongside these grocery stores to support other local independent businesses"

Boy... these cheap groceries are gonna be EXPENSIVE.

They are going to subsidize city owned stores to facilitate their operations, and then subsidize private stores because of the unfair competition? I thought this city was broke??

But why would he have to do that since everyone would benefit with communism/socialism?

All the private markets should be happy and welcome Mamdani’s plan, but paying off people to take it up the arse seems to suggest there is a flaw.

Hmmmmm

Giving money to grocery stores is still better spent taxpayer funds than an iran war

The city groceries will be closed in a month because they are going to be robbed blind. See the stories on people refusing to pay bus fares now. People will just refuse to buy and pay for groceries. They "free!"

If Aldi thought there was money to be made with 5 stores, wouldn't they have already opened them?

Take a look at the people that surround him, smiling and nodding in agreement with every word he says in press conferences. The people of NYC simply love him.

Nice, so a grocery store with no experience on how to get a grant now needs to wait at least 12 months to be awarded something from the government.

Yeah, that will go swimmingly.

These people are clowns that run elementary school campaign promises.

It’s a trap!

This is just being offered as an appeasement to the groceries knowing that eventually they’ll have to relent and go out of business which is what they want.
