The data seems to say otherwise.

You cherrypicked what I said. I discussed two variables, not just total quantity of output, which we cannot realistically ever overtake because of China's huge population edge and economic status/stagnation.

And picking a growth graph has no merit. I hope I don't need to explain why.

quote:

China has become #1 by a large (and growing) margin.

Their per capita output is shite and they've plateaued and are losing share to emerging markets like Vietnam, Bangladesh, Africa, etc.

quote:

We had a long way to fall, but we clearly seem to be falling compared to the 20th century

You're ignoring lots of important variables that don't really support this position, namely the explosion in the world's population and the increase in SOL of the world since the 1990s. We never had the capability to maintain our status in that world in relations to total global output, but that doesn't really matter because we still are in a great position considering our limitations.

Shocked that you would think that lol. I would think it's obvious that total matters more than per capita. Look at all the countries ranked above China on a per capita basis. And now think about how their global influence compares to China's. China has a massive amount of power, and an authoritarian government that isn't obligated to spread it equally amongst the population.

And picking a growth graph has no merit.

My original comment was that manufacturing has been leaving US. A graph showing negative growth has no merit?? I want you to explain.

quote:

We never had the capability to maintain our status in that world in relations to total global output

Why not? China has increased their proportion far in excess of their proportion of the global population. Where is the limit in your opinion?

If you have infinite people, maybe, but we don't.

This would also mean our workers would be paid slave wages, which they can't.

You're showing how you see this wrong.

quote:

Look at all the countries ranked above China on a per capita basis. And now think about how their global influence compares to China's.

Now you're only looking at that variable. Again, you're ignoring what I said.

Again, the US is the one country that produces a ton of quantity at a high per capita value.

Hopefully you respond to my actual argument next time.

quote:

My original comment was that manufacturing has been leaving US.

Certain manufacturing became inefficient and economically efficient manufacturing was also created at the same time.

quote:

. A graph showing negative growth has no merit?? I want you to explain.

Do you understand how economies develop and SOL changes with it?

If not, I can explain.

Also, do you understand how China started from a much worse position at the starting position of that X-axis, and how growth from that inferior position is much easier than growth from a superior position?

quote:

Why not?

The combination of our population limitations and economic advancement.

quote:

China has increased their proportion far in excess of their proportion of the global population.

And they're losing it as their economy has advanced and other less-developed countries will see that manufacturing growth.

Lower-level manufacturing is great for inferior economies, especially ones transitioning from agrarian economies without much infrastructure.

For a non-US example. Do you think Taiwan is upset that they've replaced their lower-level manufacturing and poverty of the 1950s with their current chip manufacturing and SOL of the 2020s? I don't.
