1. Voter requests ballot with proof of residency and valid ID (photocopy or drivers license number)
2. Mail in ballot in the mail 14 days before election day.
3. Mail in ballot counts released to public at least 3 days prior to election day

The craziness set up to occur this November could be nuts with the after election day counting. Imagine if Biden is seen to win on election night and then Trump pulls it out after mail in counting...

any mail-in ballots that aren't received the day before election day, don't count and immediately go in the trash

I know voting organization is a states issue But I at least think the federal government should be able to set some minimal standards like what you mentioned.

That's more effort than what I had to go through to get an absentee ballot.

The problem is mail in ballots being counted after election day. I agree there should be a drop dead day that mail in ballots will no longer be counted. Three days seems fair.

Agreed. Society is not built for a week plus wait post election day these days. Too many weak minded / easily manipulated people could cause some bad stuff to happen if things don't go their way.

...it never exists

It's amazing that you want to put trust into the hands of hundreds of unknown people to handle paper votes of citizens.

If you are too lazy to go a few blocks to cast a vote at a controlled voting booth, then you don't need to be voting

Yeah its crazy. Have to have valid ID to board a plane, by a beer, and book a hotel room.

But ID to vote? Evil, hateful, etc.

How about this. You mail you vote in with your tax payment. You commit fraud you go to prison for 4 years immediately

If you think this doesn't go on in the existing vote in person set up you are extremely niave. Currently you have poll workers, clerk of court employees, etc that can tamper with vote counts.

Vote by mail fraud could be addressed just as easily as current fraud issues...if there was a legitimate desire to eliminate fraud.

Since the ballots are being mailed in, couldn't any fraud automatically be charged with mail fraud?

Any kind of mail in voting (absentee, request a vote, whatever) is so much harder than in person voting. I mean...is it that hard to drive a mile or so from your home, walk into the polling place and up to your designated table and then sign your name and then push a couple of buttons? Then I KNOW my vote was counted. Leave the absentee/mail in voting for those who really can't get to the polling place.

Dems tout mail-in-voting because it is prone to fraud and they want it to stay that way.

The way it is being implemented right now, I completely agree. They are setting up for some crooked stuff.

Voters are not automatically registered to vote just by existing. Registration option occurs alongside receiving a driver's license at which ownership of a valid ID is guaranteed. This is true of red and blue states.
The only problem comes with mailing ballots to registered voters but the voter is no longer at the address. Signatures are matched with the DMV signature and ballots are rejected if the signature doesn't match. If someone forges a signature of a registered voters that is clear cut voter fraud.
States don't just mail ballots blindly they use county voter registration rolls to do this.
