The only area I think Trump tells Elon to stay away from is defense spending which is a large chunk of the budget so that will make it much harder to reach the $2 trillion mark.

That doesn't make any sense, totally incongruous with the two realities.
He was not going to be VP. He was never going to be the guy in 2028
To be clear, Desantis should not have run at all, even if that was his one "chance".
He may have had a chance later on down the road, like 2032. Now he has none.

Private sector =/= public sector.
There are lots of rules, regulations, and Constitutional rights involved with administrative jobs and policies that Elon has never had to deal with as a CEO.
To accomplish their plan in one term, they will have to be more aggressive than the law allows.

They were projecting $2T on just the regular bureaucracy and the math doesn't work out, but that's another discussion.

JD didn't have a record. He could be politically malleable and people couldn't attack a conservative record.
I think JD is probably pretty conservative but that couldn't be attacked.
Ron could, relentlessly, he was never in a million years going to be Trump's choice and we can literally look at the brilliant campaign he just ran and see it. Trump ran as fast as he could from things like Abortion and Ron's record on that is pretty right wing. JD could get away with avoiding that issue but Ron could not.
Trump knew that, and made the right choice for him.
