They didn’t get placed on the jury, the story is those registered to vote.

So spin this however you’d like.

I'm not spinning this in any way. I'm just letting the OP know that trying to connect the dots he was aiming at doesn't necessarily work in this instance.

Yes it does. And the letter specified that even while you’re intent on ignoring it.

Were people who were not citizens registered to vote?

Yes.

Did they discover that by cross-referencing jury summons and information on actual citizens?

Yes.

And scene.

You really need to re-read the news release.

The "Illegals" description is completely fabricated by the OP. At NO POINT in the press release is "immigration status" addressed, just citizenship. Likewise, the press release does NOT indicate that any non-citizen was selected for jury duty. It would appear that all were identified prior to selection, disqualified and released from service before even making it to a venire.

How did this happen? Michigan allows driver's licenses for several classes of LEGAL non-citizens, such as green card holders, student visa holders and asylum seekers (but not illegal immigrants). The state does NOT flag non-citizens in its driver's license database. Michigan also draws its jury pools FROM its lists of driver's license holders (and state ID card holders), so it is a surety that some non-citizens will be called for jury duty, even though they are not eligible to serve on a jury. As such, the non-citizens must be "weeded out" when they appear at the courthouse. Macomb County has almost a million residents, so 239 non-citizens over a 4-month period does not seem an unreasonable number to have received a jury summons under this system.

Yes, the system could be improved if a "citizenship" field were added to the driver's license database, and that would save everyone a bit of trouble on jury selection day, not least the ineligible residents who would not be receiving a jury summons.

Likewise, the news release DOES NOT say that 14 non-citizens have been "voting for years." It say that fourteen were REGISTERED, that several seem to "potentially" (unconfirmed?) have a voting history and that ONE person appears to have voted "several times."

So, what we ACTUALLY have have here is ONE PERSON in four months of data who "appears" to have voted illegally a few times.

The remaining issue is the "motor voter" system of voter registration. I agree that this is a bad system.

The house of cards is crumbling for the dems and they are leaderless. Trump will not leave office for his last time in 3 years without completing the exposure of this fraudulent party.

This is the president we don’t deserve but definitely needed when our country was at a crossroad. Thank God.

I don't know if it is in your case, but a lot of people believe that they pull names from voter registration lists. That isn't true, and I know it to be a fact. The first summons for jury duty I received was prior to my being a registered voter.
Were you in Michigan? Because I hope you understand that every state pulls its jury pool differently.

no matter how they got there......they shouldn't be allowed to serve on a jury as a noncitizen.
And apparently they did not. They were identified upon arrival at the court house and before ever being placed in the venire.

Would that be automatic grounds for a mistrial?
That an ineligible resident did NOT make it onto your jury?

No.

jury summons are not sent to people who are registered for a driver’s license and marked they are not a citizen. So spin this however you’d like. These people have affirmed at some point that they are citizens.
Again, take a moment and actually READ the press release.

The Clerk's complaint is that the link between the driver's license database and the jury pool "selector" does NOT flag license holders who are not citizens, even if they DO indicate that they are non-citizens when obtaining their driver's license. ("non-citizens slip through because citizenship was NOT flagged in the Secretar yof State database," emphasis added).

Ding, ding, ding.

It only took one page for someone to see the only actual issue here.

That’s cute.

So none of them were registered to vote? Oh wait. No. That’s not right.

Surely none of them voted. Oh wait. No. That’s not right.

Good effort at trying to have a point. Go try to get your daughter to talk to you. We’re all full up here.

California now has a touch screen system at the DMV and has seen an increase of 8% registered voters, so a great success.

Really, so in a state where 100s of thousands of citizens have left the state, registration to vote has gone up simply by making it easier to register at the DMV?

Or could it be that with no verification, other than you answering a question to a touch screen machine, makes if very easy for an illegal to register to vote?

Ask yourself, if you are illegal, are you going to answer yes to that question when you get your license?????

And how in the world did we get to the point where an illegal gets a drivers license?
